Leafs roster after that would look like...

Michalek-Kadri-Komarov
Leivo-Bozak-Marner
Hyman-Matthews-Nylander
Martin-Holland-Brown

Rielly-Trouba
Fowler-Zaitsev
Marincin-Carrick
Corrado/Polak

So yes, the Leafs would have to pull the trigger lol

Ruins the Left Wing. I wouldn't do it

From the Leafs perspective, I like the Anaheim deal, but I think we'd be overpaying for Trouba on the WPG deal. His speculated contract demands, if true, seriously hurt his trade value. I don't think he's an option for us if he won't sign for the same (or less) than Rielly.

Yep. As soon as we trade away JVR we need a LW just like JVR. Probably should just keep him unless our socks are knocked off.

To be fair, it's a lot easier to find a top LW in the draft or FA than it is to find a top-4 D. Still not easy, obviously, but it's less of a crapshoot since what you see is what you get with wingers usually.

Jake Gardiner is only under contract for three years. Makes him less desirable to the Jets who are not in a "win now" mentality.

Jesus, this site is getting out of hand with contract situations. No one is trading their player who just signed an 8 year deal. Nevermind the fact that the Leafs are the ones taking a player with 0 years under contract.

Meh... I wouldn't. The Trouba deal I'd consider cause top pairing RHD is a priority but its a little bit much. Gardiner + Kap + 2nd is plenty, definitely not interested in adding another 2nd. As for the other proposal, look at that forward group without JVR. Pretty sad considering Michalek is done after this year and Bozak may be trade bait in the near future. We need some good vets to shelter the kids. I think we need more as is, not interested in trading our best one for a LH puck moving D. We have could fill that role internally. There's nobody who can step into JVRs role ATM

1st trade:

TO ANA: JVR (4.25) + Hunwick (1.25)

TO TOR: Fowler (4.0) + Stoner (3.25) + 2nd 2017 (Prev TOR) + 2nd 2017 ANA

Anaheim sheds some cap and adds their top line LW. Hunwick is depth for the bottom pairing at a cheaper price with only one year left. They save 5.25 total off the Stoner contract and put it towards Lindholm/Rakell. The 2nd rounders are the cost for shedding Stoner who is a 100% cap dump.

Toronto adds a younger defenceman in Fowler that can play a lot of minutes. He would play on the second pairing and solidify the top 4. Stoner's cap hit is manageable due to the Leafs not utilizing LTIR on the Robidas and Lupul contracts yet.

2nd deal:

TO WIN: Gardiner (4.0) + Kapanen (0.9) + 2nd 2017 ANA + 2nd 2017 OTT or SJ

TO TOR: Trouba (~5.0-5.5)

Winnipeg gets the LD they want while adding additional assets due to Trouba being younger than Gardiner. Kapanen looked great in camp and could eventually line up opposite Laine.

Toronto adds a RD to pair with Morgan Rielly. The defence after the above deals would look like this:

Rielly-Trouba

Fowler-Zaitsev

Stoner-Carrick

(Marincin-Polak)

Jets have Armia on the 4th line, and Dano in the minors. That would put Kapanen at 6th at best in the depth chart on RW. The Jets don't need another forward prospect, at all. As it is, they have an asset stack with Dano, Petan, Lemieux, Copp, Roslovic, Burmistrov, De Leo, etc. already waiting in the wings for a place in the line-up.

Two 2nds is much too steep to clear $2M.

Fowler + Stoner + 2nd for JVR...you guys move Hunwick elsewhere for a pick.

That sounds more fair in ANA is on board

If it's TORs 2nd I'd even send a 3rd to Anaheim as well

so basically.. gardiner and a b prospect and a couple of late 2nds gets you trouba?

Gardiner and Kapanen would never in any world fetch a trouba.

I like to over rate my players as well and all but man oh man.. Petry and andrighetto and two seconds for Trouba I would do tomorrow morning.

hell ill even make the two seconds a first

Good premise, but too complicated with the Ducks deal, too much going to the Jets in the other

JVR@ 50% for Fowler+

Gardiner+ Dermott+2nd for Trouba

Odds are slim against either one of Fowler or Trouba ending up in Toronto little lone both of them. Fowler could be a possibility in Toronto just don't see Trouba there though by the sound of things.

Gardiner+ Dermott+2nd for Trouba

This is good framework for discussion for a Trouba trade. Gardiner is good but he is old and the + has to be really good if he is the main piece coming back in a Trouba trade.

I would add nothing more, truth be told this would be more than *I* would be comfortable offering, but it's what I could see it taking to make a deal if Lou and co. really wanted Trouba

If it's TORs 2nd I'd even send a 3rd to Anaheim as well

Part of the Andersen trade is that ANA gets the "middle" pick in between TOR's 3 x 2017 2nd rounders. (TOR/OTT/SJ 2nds) So right now, they're probably in line to get OTT's 2nd if I'm guessing.

So what I proposed was JVR + Hunwick (optional, thought ANA would want depth if they lost Fowler and Stoner for a LWer) for Fowler + Stoner (signed for 2 more years at 3.25) + ANA 2nd 2017 + Toronto's "middle" 2nd back. To a budget team, taking away Stoner's 6.5 million over the next 2 years is huge if he's not going to be playing minutes for them. JVR and Fowler's cap hits are a wash and is simply allocating more $$$ to the offence which is a problem for ANA.

Washington paid us Carrick (worth a 2nd) and their 2nd to take Laich as a contract dump. I don't think it's too far fetched to say dumping Stoner would be a similar cost.

Oh look its Jake Gardiner directly causing a goal already. That didn't take long. Terrible pedestrian coverage in front, but I'm not shocked. He does it a lot.

"A bonafide top-4 defender with huge upside and astronomical trade value" - signed, every single leaf fan.

Oh look another terrible shift by Gardiner causing a goal.

-2 real early for the young superstar.
