He looks like a completely different player than last year. He’s skating faster, he’s fully playing at the pace of the game with not even a slight issue, he’s making decisions faster and he’s starting to flash some skill. I really wanna see Quinn move him up to line 2 bc he might be primed for a breakout.

I'm seeing exactly this. He's comfortable with the pace of the game. He's no longer chasing it.

Exactly. Last year, even when he would look good, it always seemed like he was a slight step behind. Like he was a (exactly what he was) kid playing a man's game and struggling to keep up. Well now it's not even a slight issue, dude is flying out there.

It's still way so early and only two games, but so far, Trouba looks like a beast and EK has struggled big time. I had argued that over the next few years, Trouba might be the better player and can get better given his age, while Karlsson will likely enter a decline phase given his age and contract situation.

Team was much better defending and crisper in their transitions and breakouts. But I would like still better offensive zone time from the bottom 9. I actually think the second line is close to clicking. I've seen some plays where they were close to establishing zone play but the D either messed up a pass or they got an unlucky puck bounce.

I thought Lemieux had a tough night other than a near breakaway where he looked like he was shot out a cannon. He can really dial up the speed. But he gave up too many shots to his man in the D zone, collapsed down every time instead checking more aggressively.

The first power play unit is exquisite at the moment and I love the idea of Fox and ADA on the second unit. But PP1 cant sustain this all year, so we'll likely see personnel moves. PP1 has been so good that PP2 hasn't seen much action besides mop-up duty. I agree that Panarin's hockey IQ is also top of the scale. His decision making is also incredible. That headman pass from Fox to Panarin that sprung the tic tac toe goal was a beaut.

The second line center spot is a big hole right now - several potential answers, but not a definitive answer to this point.

Ditto for some long term help on the wings - something to round out what Kravtsov, Kakko and potentially Buch bring. There’s also the potential for some of the same players being eyed as potential second line centers helping out in this department.

I think we also need more skills options on the left defensive side in the organization.

In terms of moving guys, I think Skjei will be moved at some point - but probably not until Miller has shown he can step into the NHL. It doesn’t do anyone any good to throw a young player into the same type of scenario that sent Skjei down his current path.

At some point you’ll see guys packaged to fill holes. The odds say that there will come a point when at least one of Howden, Andersson or Chytil is going to be moved.

So, let’s say a second line center doesn’t emerge from that trio, or you find yourself with a winger and two third line centers, I think that’s when you see one of them packaged, perhaps with a goalie and a defenseman, to try and fill that second line center hole.

In other words, do we see a Howden, Skjei and Georgiev for a second line center and a middle six winger deal at some point? Quite possible.

He had back surgery and missed all of last year...I would assume that's what's keeping him out this season.

It seems, I always write something early in the season that you can’t get too excited about what happens during the first couple of weeks of the season but two games in and I am pumped.

A real first line, a lot of talented young players, good goaltending and good karma. This is fun.

I keep reminding myself not to get too excited. But I am excited.

I hear ya Bob...I feel similar as I'm trying to contain myself tho it's not working all too well. You and I have been thru way too many Ranger seasons to not know better but it's really hard to not feel a bit intoxicated by the youth and energy of this team.

This current team does have a different feel too it than other teams in the recent past that have been veteran laden tho very good like the 2006 thru 2017 teams and other Ranger teams from the 80's-90's as tho we had some exciting teams, we were either too small(think those Smurf teams) that had mediocre goaltending(think Steve Baker,Eddie Mio) or just weren't that good tho they had some very exciting moments.

We've never had a team like this that had such young top end talent combined with young veterans who were either in their prime or just about there. When you combine that with what looks to be at worst above average goaltending, you have the makings of the kind of team you can't wait to watch. Now whether or not it resonates into wins or not is a completely different animal. But the Rangers this year will sure be a compelling watch that's shit sure.

Ive been of the opinion that we are making the playoffs. You dont need a superstar defense, you need a balanced one. Henrik may not be who he was anymore, but hes still adept and can make some key saves. The 2nd line c is the major issue, but i think it can be fixed if he quinn tries names at 2c- he cant finish but his passes are very good and he can enter a zone. Libor with trouba is good, eventually we will probably see Libor get a little tired like chytil did last year- rookies have a hard time adjusting to an 82 game schedule usually. Keep brady on 2nd or 3rd pair, hes good against decent competition but he makes too many boneheaded decisions with the puck against elite players. It doesnt hurt that nj lost both their games and i heard hall got injured. We will make the wildcard, look at colorado and how they made it last year with meh depth on the forward lines. Granted, their defense was good but varlamov had a meh season and Graebuer(however u spell it) stole it from him. Our defense will be better this season and our pk looks to be a lot better, i mean we killed 4 out of 5 against a loaded team in winnipeg and 5 out of 5 against a dumpster fire team. Our problem last season is we were completely barren outside of mika kreider buch deangelo and georgiev. Now we have panarin kakko trouba and fox. What do u guys think? Do u agree?

Man, is there anyone left that wouldn’t rather be rolling with a Georgiev/Shesty tandem? Henrik is cooked and making way, way too much money. I could go for a nice equipment allergy related retirement right about now.

Rangers weren't exactly over the hill when they drafted Park....however, it wasn't long after when the trading of young talent for "established vets" began. That '79 group was probably the closest to what we have now.
