QUOTES TO NOTE:

I think it definitely was not my best. I think I need to be better with my gap.
When you’re playing against better players, you can’t give them that much speed through the neutral zone.
That first goal, I have to be boxing guys out in the net-front, making sure Duchene doesn’t get that second chance there.
Aside from that, there were definitely some good things.
- Kevin Shattenkirk

It’s the home opener fans are jacked, we’re excited.
There’s 81 left, we have to learn from out mistakes and go back to work.
- Rick Nash

It was a good hockey game. Both teams had some good looks.
- Alain Vigneault

Hard to read too much into team performance this early, but on the individual level, Buchnevich and Vesey look prime to take a step forward this year, which is something this team really needs moving forward, now and with a likely Nash departure.

The defense is certainly a work in progress. Ill stick to my prediction of Holden in next game.

Ya, it can happen to the best - it`s so early in the season 80 games left, I`m not worry about Hank at all I can tell u that much. He just need to work through it with our goalie coach.

Why are we closing threads now? There's no limits anymore (there weren't even limits on the old ones for a while) and no real reason to close them other than habit.

I rag on AV quite a bit but I have to give credit where it's due for making the right adjustments in that period.

I hope he stays the course in the 3rd..

The usage of Chytil makes no sense and despite what ended up happening moving Staal up with McDonagh when down 3 goals doesn't either.

So Stats guys, to what extent is this early increase in NHL scoring game to game a product of increased penalty calls? Or is it a likely aberration?

I think Chytil would benefit from seeing time on the 2nd PP unit, but I’m ok with him watching and learning tonight

Staal has been fine so far this season.

He's been our second best defensemen so far though nearly two games. I highly doubt that continues, but he's not a big problem right now.

AV made the right calls in the 2nd period. Not rocket science but it showed results. I like Hayes game. Thought he was excellent in the 2nd. Maybe our best player. The comeback of Stall was also nice to see.
