#1OA Juraj Slafkovsky - Huge Disappointment

Wright wasn't picked #1OA tho, the expectations are vastly different. Besides, Slafkovsky is regressing whereas Wright is trending in the right direction. Two very different trajectories.
Wright could easily have been picked 1st, the top of that class was thought of as interchangeable. Expectations are only different because we think 1OA must be so much better by default. Reality is they were regarding in the same tier and the expectations should reflect this for both players equally.

It was just a weak draft year. If you look at the top of the draft, none of those guys are looking like anything more than 2nd liners, let alone superstars.

Slafkovsky will in all likelyhood be an average second line winger, albeit a rangy one. If the Habs were smart they'd be feeding him JVR clips.

Panarin ? Has nothing to do with this

Dude, you've posted in every possible post about Lafreniere how Panarin inflates his numbers (this thread didn't even have anything to do with Lafreniere). It's incredibly obvious you're dragging him because if you do so you can boost Panarin's impact on his game. You were doing it last year when he had a great year without any PP time (this year he got a little more for a handful of games). Either for no reason you don't like a player on another random team that just happens to play with Panarin. Or you're trying to boost Panarin by saying how shitty he is. Just admit it.

Oh and before you say anything, he has sucked this year as has almost the entire Rangers roster save the depth guys. That entire line has been shit, Panarin and Trocheck included.

Panarin did inflate his stats, you can’t deny it. But as you pointed out, it’s irrelevant now, they all are underperforming, still I think Slaf will be a better player in the long run

Interesting take. Seems like a mistake to me, but I'm sure Kent and his team are more informed than I am I guess.
Yeah I found that interesting as well, first time hearing this kind of thinking. I could understand when it comes to Junior hockey, I mean the guy was 6 ft 3 230lbs..but I dont think he would have man handled the AHL

I am not worried though, he already showed stretches of great play, the last 30-40 games of last year he was driving the play with suzuki and caufield.. he's been pretty pedestrian this year. Lots of off ice rumors and what not and I think its more a question of confidence and work ethic..he'll get there

To be a disappointment one need to be hyped. Slafkovsky was a 1st overall (that was not unanimous) in what will likely be one of the worst draft ever. Him not destroying the league at 20 is not really a huge disappointment. In fact it's not even a disappointment at all. He was and remain a project. If he has not progressed in 2-3 years we'll be able to talk but as for now TOO SOON AGAIN AS USUAL.

I guess you forgot Logan Cooley

This thread is total insanity. Look at what age power forwards start producing. Neely. Getzlaf. And Macramella’s post is an embarrassment. He should stick to law.

Slaf will work his way towards a better season that has started with this year...he's got great size and skill...did Hughes give him too much money too soon...well...I hope he starts to use that size and deveop a bit of a mean streak and take charge...

What is this thread?

Very few people in Montreal are "Dissapointed" in him and at worst it's maybe a smidge, but he's on pace too hit last years totals, he was never seen as a slam dunk like most years and was viewed more as a top 6-10 pick in the 23 draft as an example.

I'm not expecting slaf to hit his stride till the 26-27 season at the earliest when he's fully matured as he's not even 21 and wont be until the end of the season. He's a big winger learning to play that game and it takes time. Also who should we have picked instead that is demonstrably better at this point? Cooley, Wright, Nemec and Slaf are all about the same, the same as they we're on draft day.

He’ll be fine, he’s rounding his game no different than the hat Quinton Byfield is doing on the Kings. They both had breakouts, the league adjust and they they both struggled offensively but I full agree expect a bounce back season for both next year

I guess Lafrenière, Byfield, Cozens, Wright, and a bunch of other young players are also busts, right?

Will be fun to come back to your thread in a couple years. ;)
Byfield might do something with his career but at the moment he's nothing worth mentioning.
