Thats the thing...Edmonton needed a top 4 dman and very few were available. The market varies from deal to deal. Given how good Edmonton looks....thats a deal that seemed to work out. Sometimes you have to pay to get the players you want. Sure you can refuse to overpay, but you may never fill a hole.

Completely valid point. I guess I'm a little more patient than most Sabres fans. It's not like we've been a doormat year in and year out like the Oilers were. We had 2 bad years in a row got 2 key cogs in Eichel and Reinhart and took a reasonable step forward last year. While that top 4 LHD or even better that top pair LHD is probably our biggest need it doesn't mean we have to have it immediately. See how this season plays out and what becomes available. This expansion draft could cause a couple guys to potentially shake loose. If we have to draft and develop a guy so be it. We aren't so overstocked at forward that we should be making a trade in desperation that clearly favors the other team.

I'm sure Buffalo would trade for the right deal. But it would have to be the right deal. Like a Trouba or Rielly type guy coming back.
I was thinking maybe Scandella.
I wouldn't say he's some sacred cow or anything, but his speed and skill are something we sorely lack. If we're talking about Brodin or Scandella in return, the value is close, but i'd rather just keep Nylander.
Fair enough :)
What about Reinheart (with modifications, if needed) for Jonas brodin.
Brodin appears to be turning a corner this year and Buffalo shouldn't think about trading Reinhart.

3 franchise players were excluded leaving all 1sts, Reinhart and others available in discussion...your user name shows your interest in the thread...nice try.

(disclaimer) I'm not a fan of VAN or BUF.

This is a deal that might appeal to Jim Benning. Lots of meat and potatoes. Not so sure about Canucks fans.

EVANDER KANE
JOSH GORGES
William Carrier
BUF 1ST Round Pick (conditional)

for

ALEX BURROWS (expiring cap dump)
ALEX EDLER

Conditions - 1st round pick is 2017 BUF 1ST...
...unless that pick becomes a top 10 pick...
...in which case it converts to 2018 BUF 1ST

If Murray were to contemplate trading Reinhart he'd probably get the best value from Vancouver. Benning tried to trade with Florida to get their 1st overall pick in 2014 to take Reinhart, a hometown boy.

Reinhart <----> Tanev

Stecher looks great, they have Gudbranson, Hutton, Edler, Juolevi coming.

Edler is 30 and looking it. I'd trade Kane straight up for Edler, Buffalo throws in a 3rd rounder.

I will never understand why Sabres fans are so eagerly willing to trade Sam Reinhart. IMHO, he's an un touchable along with Eichel, O'Reilly, and Risto. I'd be willing to trade this years first, NYLANDER, and someone like Fasching for a LHD.

Not bad, but even though Gorges is pretty bad, I don't think Buffalo wants to lose a LHD to upgrade to another LHD, but that's just me

Not sure of views on Gardiner, but I think we could replace Gardiner internally in next couple seasons. Problem is leafs need a top 4 rhd in return, but both cylinders playing together is pretty tempting. Yes I know Gardiner is not a number 1 id say he's closer to a number 3. I just can't see anybody in the league offering up a true number 1 d

Something around Ryan Murray for Sam Reinhart?

I want to sit on this one. I really just don't want to flip Sam before we get to see him with Jack this year. That said, this is definitely worth consideration.

How does Buffalo value Nylander?

A lot. We have a slow and unskilled team. He is the only player that brings a speed/skill combo other than Eichel.

Op didn't offer scraps. Reinhart and what will probably be a high first rounder are on the table. He's not a leafs fan ;)

Brodin for reinhart would make me giddy but it's not a good deal for buffalo.

This is terrible for BUF

Terrible is an exaggeration. Wild would need to add more, but not THAT much more. In my limited viewings of Reinhart, I haven't been knocked out by him. I don't think he is the elite #1C in the making that the Wild want so badly. Weird that he will be the 3rd best C on BUF.

He may not become the elite #1 center that you are looking for, but that's how the Sabres should value him in a trade, because he very well may be in time. And he's Buffalo's 3rd best center because of circumstance. ROR is a top 10 center in the league right now and Eichel is our best prospect since Perreault. That shouldn't be the knock on Reinhart.

If that trade went down, it would be highway robbery by the Wild. I mean, yeah I'd love it but it's very far from fair value.

So far I'm hearing Scandella, Brodin, Murray, Tanev, Edler as targets.

That's not a bad list.

I'm just gonna put this out there to the universe: Board, if you had to pick one of these guys to play big defensive minutes, who would be at the top of the list? I don't watch everyone else's games, but Tanev comes with perhaps the strongest reputation for smart defensive play of the guys listed, AFAIK.

Brodin
Murray-upside
Scandella
Edler

Tanev is RHS so not sure if you want to play him on his offhand side. If so I'd have him right with Murray.

All of the guys are good and not a huge amount of separation. So I used age as the deciding factor.
