We got some conversation when I did this for 1969, so I thought I'd do another one. Here's my redraft of 1970.

The rules that I went by are the same as when I did the 1969 redraft.

I had a tough time deciding between MacLeish and Bouchard at 5/6. Still not sure if I'm satisfied, but I change my mind on rankings all the time, so who cares?

I think this is a much stronger class than in 1969. Clarke is still the best overall player that we've seen in this exercise so far, but there are three clear HOF members in this class. We have a couple of strong scorers and decent goalies in the mix too, whereas there were only about 4 total players in 1969 that I would consider to be at their level. And even after that, I think there's noticeably more talent in the remainder of the round than after those few in 1969.

How would you guys rank this class, and how does it compare to 1969?

Also, love the avatar, it's SO Ace!

1- Gilbert Perreault
2- Billy Smith
3- Darryl Sittler
4- Rick MacLeish
5- Reggie Leach
6- Gilles Meloche
7- Dan Bouchard
8- Dan Maloney
9- Mike Murphy
10- Yvon Lambert
11- Dale Tallon
12- Bob Kelly
13- Fred Barrett
14- Greg Polis

- Really tough to pick between Perreault, Smith and Sittler. You could make a good argument for any of them.

- I have MacLeish over Leach. As good as Reggie was, he needed Clarke on his line. MacLeish could produce with second-liners

- Tough choice between Meloche and Bouchard, but Meloche had that epic playoff performance in '80 against Montreal that Bouchard never had.

- Boston drafted Leach, MacLeish and Bouchard..... and let them all go. I understand they wanted to go all-in in the early-70s when Orr and Espo were in their prime, but they must have wished they still had those guys in those late-70s series against Montreal.

I'm going to quote you since you hit on a few things that have been talked about/I thought about. I felt pretty confortable with Perreault at #1, but I did some thinking about 2/3. Ultimately, I picked Smith #2 because of his playoff performances.

I also went back and forth between Leach and MacLeish. You make a good point about them. The thing that was the tipping point to me since I found them so close overall was that I liked Leach's peak a bit more. But yeah, I wouldn't call someone an idiot for preferring MacLeish. Lol

Maybe taking Bouchard over Meloche is contrary to my thought process on point #1, but I felt there was some meat between them in regular season performance. Bouchard only got out of the first round once, right? But is that on him or the teams?
