Also, I've done this with, if I'm not mistaken, every GDT for HF Hawks this year. This one might be the best of the bunch simply because the names were easy to mock.

I was thinking the same thing. Those contracts killed any chance of getting decent depth players.

true that ie Seabrook's contract is a disaster.But actually depth players/new players are playing above expectations (no AHL call-up was needed) while it's core/veteran players who are underperforming and look untinterested.

Whats the alternative? let them walk and tank for another 5-10 years. or trade them and hope a team of good guys and depth can win you a cup in an era where two superstars is the answer?

Problem is that Toews isn't a superstar yet he's paid like one. Kane you can at least argue deserves a deal sort of like that one, Toews just doesn't. It's barely an exaggeration at all to say that Kane's worst years are equal to Toews' best years.

IMO they should have traded Toews at least if that was the only deal he'd take. Would have probably gotten a kings ransom for him including at least one or two blue chip young players, and would still have had Kane, Keith, Panarin etc to add them to.

You can win with a superstar making 10.5. You can maybe, maybe win with two superstars making 10.5. You can't win with merely good players making 10.5.

Hey how has Murphy looked for you guys? I was high on him when he first came in to the league

It's hard to tell. He's been scratched a few times so Joel can have two pylons (Seabrook and Franson) play and Murphy has played several games on the left. Unless something changes, that's where he'll unfortunately be tonight.

But I personally see potential in him. He's made plenty of mistakes, but at times it feels like he's getting more comfortable out there (he likes to jump into plays more than I expected).

Toews is a solid two way guy with great leadership so that what theyre paying for to some extent.

Reason why its hasn't worked for them is the ran out of good young guys coming up and good vets taking cheap deals.

Two way leaders have worth but it’s not 10.5 a year.

They could have flipped Toews for a handful of excellent young guys instead of paying a 60 pt player like a superstar.
