Grigs back in tonight, Scott out.

Sekera back, Brennan out.

Good. Brennan was arguably our worst player out there start to finish. The team looked good in the 1st but his pair struggled all game. Good time for Grigs to get back in. I think they win this one.

Sabres 48 - Islanders 0.5 (goal waived off for being stupid and ugly with no personality)

I kinda like those. I'd be happy with Rolston if that's the case. Grigs needs some TOI. Confidence I hope his isn't ruined...

I have no idea why posters bring up his confidence. If its ruined right now, he is a mental midget.

I have faith that's not remotely the case.

Because he's a young player? Remember when Sekera asked Ruff to sit out a game? I remember when I went up a level in hockey...the speed of the game was extremely humbling.

Not being able to keep up mentally and physically will bring a player's confidence down. His confidence will grow as his game grows. I think he understands it's a long process, but you can see his tentative out there. I think that's a confidence issue.

Rolston coaching Grigorenko at this point is probably a best case scenario. I think he will handle him fine.

You're talking about the normal issues any young player goes through adjusting to the NHL.

I'm talking about the over the top hyperbole that his confidence may be ruined. I think it's ridiculous at this point if his career to make such an assertion.

Paul Hamilton has a quote from Leino that spans multiple tweets, I'll combine them here:

Leino via Hamilton said:
We're making an effort to try to make it better. It should be a signal to the players that we want to win, we're doing everything we can it's pro hockey and we've got to demand more out of coaches, players and everybody. One of the things here I've noticed since being here over a year is we've got to have higher demands, higher priorities on games, working better and keeping each other accountable here. It's not always a happy family, you've got to have some controversy, some guys pushing each other. It's not all smiles and happy and being nice guys because nice guys usually finish last.

I like that kind of talk out of players, hopefully more start speaking out like Regehr a few days ago and Leino today.

Notice how it's the people who have not been with the team for a while. These group of powder puffs need to learn how to challenge each other to be better. They are way too complacent and non confrontational.

Predictions about who will catch fire under the new coach? My money is on Gerbe. (though I have no idea why)

I'm not complaining with having Scott out...but that's not a very tough team. That's why I liked having McCormick with the big club. He could fight but also play quality 4th line minutes.

Agreed. A couple scratches at 18 in the NHL shouldn't be enough to destroy anyone's confidence. The Bruins scratched Seguin 7 times as a rookie, and I'd say he's just fine. (Granted, he's on a much better team.)

RR on Grig: "When we put him in there, we want him 2 be playing with some players that he can play with ... & build confidence."

Is that Ott and Foligno? The quote makes me think he'll be playing with guys that can score, but who knows.

Anyone want to give me even-money odds that posters start complaining that "Grigs has been benched for Hecht" with 10 minutes left and the Sabres protecting a one-goal lead?

You don't win games being good at winning fights. You win games scoring more goals and allowing less. This team was "tough" and sucked at both.

No, you're doing it wrong .. it's whenever Hecht's out there. ;)
Also, a PP/PK wouldn't be complete with a total knee-jerk reaction afterwards, "OMGZ why is x playing with y now?!" .. when the lines are simply mixed so we can get fresh legs out.

That's all I want from RR for the rest of this season. Team is probably hopeless this season. Get the kids some opportunities and help them develop so we can at least look forward to a brighter future.

This team was tough when? Not in the last several years, that's for sure.

Don't confuse Scott making Thornton loopy in a fight with overall team toughness.

We remain one of the softest teams, overall, in the league.
