And btw to who said the Devils were 'lucky' to win yesterday, they frigging dominated that game even strength. People said after the early start the Devils just needed to play .500 to make the playoffs, well it seems like they're trying to do that - good game, bad game, good game, bad game.

Exactly.

They planted themselves a top a nice cushion with that 5-0 run and their start. They put themselves in a good position, barring a total breakdown, they likely won't fall out of a playoff spot.

Again.

On a ****ing PK, Volchenkov can't be standing right next to Ovechkin.

He has to stay in the lane and protect the front of the net as well, if anything blame the Devils for not closing up that option. It's not Volchenkov's fault when the best players in the world make a nice saucer pass over his stick to Ovechkin who is one of the best shooters in the world.

The forward on the weak side of the play should've helped close the gap, and we failed to do that. It's a joint effort on the PK to shut down guys like that, and we continually left Ovechkin open when it was absolutely clear that the puck was going to him every time.

First off, Volchenkov was blocking air cause the guy behind the net has about 0.1% of scoring from there, there's absolutely no one in the crease or in front of Moose and the most dangerous player for the opposition is parked in a prime scoring area just above the slot. I'm not asking for Volch to skate at the dot but he has to be placed in between the passer and the shooter. Take a look at the replay from Ovy's pov and you don't even see Moose cause Volch is kneeled in his crease. You have to be aware of who's on the ice and react accordingly.

Second of all, you can't have it both ways with Volch. When I point him out, people are raving about his PK abilities but when the PK goes to crap, it's a team effort and all 4 players have to be aware. Out of the PP goals that were allowed, they all came from the right side, wich is the side Anton plays. Passes are going threw like he's not even there.

I just don't know why he's getting so much protection from this fanbase. I love his heart as much as the next guy, but eventually, talent has to show up to the plate as well.

Good news: We probably won't play the Islanders or Capitals in the playoffs.. won't get embarrassed by Tavares or Ovechkin again.

Bad news: Seriously need to get our **** together. 1st in the division is nice but this team is playing terrible and whatever lead we built up is going to evaporate pretty quickly if we continue to play this way.

I know we know but Zubrus out kills. The depth at FWD kills. Defense, well, Volch needs to step up, and the PK too. They need to get back to the simple stuff and not all these derived equations of the galaxy to shoot.

Caps fans don't know what the Cup looks like.

dude you split a home and home where both were at home. relax yes the caps could probably still win the worst division in hockey for the past 8 yrs. nothing to get overly excited about

Oof, is there a city-wide carbon monoxide leak in D.C. right now?

hahaha what a clown. congrats on your lone win against us this season.

Figure the team in last place wouldn't care about the standings.

You probably are up to date on the draft lottery though. How's that looking?

lol. these comments show not to taunt our board. caps finally get a win and this is what they do? come here and taunt? congrats on ur 6th win. try and reach 10 before the end of the season. maybe youll get another ovy outta the draft. youll be getting the first pick

7 points up on 9th place with two more games played. That cushion is quickly shrinking.

Hoping we can come out strong tomorrow and take the next two vs. the Jets. Not a team we should lose to either but so far this season, we've been losing to bad teams and beating good teams..

It's so obvious that a large number of posters here don't watch the rest of the league, and also allow the final score results completely dictate their perception of how a game went.

You think? It's really hard to beat a team twice in a row in there building when they are desperate. Moose doesn't get caught wandering might be a different game. It happens. Move on.

The lottery system sucks for the last overall team now. Only a 25% chance of getting 1st pick, down from something like 60%.

I'm not saying Volchenkov was totally not at fault, but he doesn't deserve the brunt of the blame. The Devils allowing Ovechkin to be that wide open after he already had two attempts at a one-timer on that same power play, one hitting the side of the net and one Hedberg saved, is a collective failure.

Failing to adjust to shutting down their most lethal weapon in Ovechkin is dumb. You can't except Volchenkov to be able to block that pass regardless, and easy saucer and Volchenkov is in the dust. He tried everything on that shift, and two other times, it was passed right through him. You're telling me the other players on the ice shouldn't have realized this and helped him out. Combine that with Ovechkin had two goals already so they are clearly going to look for the hat trick.

I'm not a big fan of Volchenkov. I like his game, but on his off nights, which are too often, he looks really bad, I just don't like how people are pinpointing him as being solely to blame.

That has pretty much been the Devils way for a while now. Problem is, too many teams are bad this season. :sarcasm:

Excuse for the Hurricanes?
Excuse for the Islanders?
Excuse for the Senators?

This team is far from garbage but let's not pretend they've been playing well at all lately.

this doesn't excuse the fact that

1. the scoring has completely dried up

2. pk is abysmal

3. team has only won 2x in 6 games

Worst effort of the season. Absolutely horrible unacceptable showing against the leagues bottom sitters.

It all comes down to this. This team does not play 60 minutes against these crap teams. That's why teams like the Isles, and Caps score 5 goals against us in a game. We didn't even show up for 60 last game. Showed up for about 5 minutes this game. I don't expect them to play 60 minutes against the POS Jets either.

I'm not sure if the PK needs changes. They didn't even try to kill the last two.

I dunno bout pinpointing but if you're a PK specialist you better not be letting pucks through you and the box on the PK. Forget about the Ovy goal to start the 3rd, the 2 on the PK were gross by Volch and someone who is supposedly in our lineup to take care of situations like that.

Because everytime he get's beat, the puck is behind Hedberg. He's the last guy to always get beat right after a goal, wich probably doesn't tell the entire story as to why we let in a goal but when the common dominator is #28, you have to start wondering why he's always the last guy in the picture, brushing his head backwards after a goal.
