Pros

Michkov didnt pout and instead played a hell of a game

Andrae looks better in the NHL than he did in the AHL or SHL

Cons

This team is very dumb. How many gimme goals can one team miss in a game?
Andrae is a smart player who had to be, to compensate for lack of size/speed. Sometimes guys like him, and Brink, are better up a level where they play with players smart and skilled enough to take their passes...

Nah. I think he worked his tail off this summer, like York did a couple years ago.
Added strength and really improved his skating, especially his lateral movement.

I watched him a half dozen times in the AHL and he NEVER looked like this.
Andrae last year looked solid, but nothing special.
This Andrae looks like he could be a serious player.

Just finished watching.

1a) MM, baby! But as said before - good game = see, the benching motivated him; bad game = see, he is shit --> confirmation bias would make any performance of his justify the damn benching
1b) MM has to buy Ersson a beer (or four!) for those OT saves, what a dumb penalty
1c) Watching MM on the same line as those AHL plugs hurt my eyes. And ofc he is put on PP with TK and it's an immediate goal.
2) I don't want to imagine how this team would look like if subtracting just 3 players - MM, TK and Ersson
3) Andrae looks really exciting at the moment, but this franchise is a soul sucking void, so hopefully he wins SC eventually elsewhere
4) Really not a fan of Foerster lately

Edit:

5) We are the very last in NHL at 5on5 HDSH% and it sure looked so in this game.

Sharks were 5-2 going into this game, so they weren't the pushover you'd expect, but 2nd game of a back to back and it showed in the 3rd period. Weird game, Sharks got some lucky bounces, while the Flyers did everything but put the puck into the net.

Couts line was totally dominant, I don't think they're changing up anytime soon, TK could easily have had a hat trick, Tippett hit another post, Couts missed a wide open put back.
The Laughton line was bad, Brink is trying but he's on the wrong side of the ledger too often.
You can see why Richard has never stuck in the NHL, that speed allows him to start plays, but he never seems to finish them.

Michkov took a really stupid penalty. But then scores in the shoot out - he should buy Ersson a few rounds for covering for his F-Up.

Cates looks faster this season, and Edge agrees, his top speed has been below league average, but this season 22.43 to league average 21.78. But his 20+ bursts are well below, so he added speed last summer but is learning how to use it - this game it looked like he figured it out.

Andrae was a beast, still makes some mistakes and loses too many battles, but since when did he have those dekes and moves? Yeah, Torts hates young players, that's why he gave Andrae 25 minutes - maybe he only hates young players who don't play well? Andrae got a shot and is running away with it. Still not convinced he's top 4 material, but he's on his way to making me a believer.

Ersson came up big in OT, Flyers are 5-2-2 with him in the net.
Torts is a genius playing Andrae 25 minutes when you look at all the other great options he has at his disposal.

This was the plan all along. Wait for York to get hurt then play Andrae. Also, he looked real good. Against the Sharks. Temper expectations. Lets see wha the does againt the top hale of the league teams.

Sharks are terrible. Don't care about their last 7 game record. Flyers are on the way up. 6 points behind the Caps for 3rd place. Need to tighten up for that playoff push. Once they trade Forst for that respected vet they can then make that run. This is a team with a bright future.

Also, Caps have unsustainably high 5v5 PDO right now. This doesn't mean I think PHI have shot at taking their spot, tho.

Foerster has been horrendous from the few games i've seen this season. Another prospect ruined the more they spend time with Torts? Or just a blip on the radar?

I suspect it's more like York a couple years ago, when he bulked up too much over the summer, struggled to start the season, then improved as he shed excess bulk and skated better.

Sometimes kids get too enthusiastic with weight training and don't balance it with skating and aerobic work.

Jeez, I wonder where they get the idea to overbulk from?

It's normal in any contact sport.

The key is not to overdo it, add 5-10 lbs an offseason, balance it with skating/agility training, and accept when you hit your natural optimum point.

Most players add 15-25 lbs between 18 and 22, depending on their frame.

Foerster's future is as a PF (not a good enough skater to be a finesse player) and you need the muscle mass to play around the blue paint. But you have to be patient building up - how many 21 year olds are patient?

Not many but you would think one that works for a multi billion dollar company with loads of resources would at least provide guidance.

Maybe wait a few games?
I just want to see Andrae put a month together like this, much less a 10 year career.

Not just a few games. I need a hell of a lot more than a month to even think that name.

I would be very happy with all outcomes that have me pleased to roster him on a 2nd contract.

As much as I loved what I saw, I still have him as a 3rd pair guy, PP2 right now.
His defense is still up and down, and given his size, he'll have to play with perfect leverage.
But he certainly flashed potential.

You are literally the only person who claims Tortorella hates young players. It's a strawman argument you've dreamed up because you can't successfully defend anything else this team does.

Tortorella hates playmakers. He hates cross-ice passing in HD areas. He hates east-west players, despite those players greatly improving chances of winning. And he hates anyone who can threaten him as the center of attention.

Edit: Although, while we are at it, Tortorella has indeed said that he hates working with young players and hates having to communicate with them so he doesn't even bother. What a great communication process. This was one of his opening intro diatribes when he was hired. Andrae will be fine as long as Tortorella never has need to talk to him. That's why guys like Cates gets infinite rope. He already plays a no-risk offensive game with heavy emphasis on defensive thinking, so he never has to talk to him.

Andrae's mobility is vastly improved, and his NHL game appears to be taking off because of it.

I think he hired a personal trainer and a chef in the offseason in an effort to improve his fitness, and it sure seems to be paying dividends in his skating.

My personal take is that it's a bit of a 'blip'. Visually he looks a lot worse, but his metrics aren't all that different than last year. He's still a strong defensive player, but the offense just hasn't been there.

I'm a big time believer in the thought that unless you're a legit top line/elite level player you're only as good as the people you play with. Last year he played mostly with TK and Couts. And, he only had 4 points through 20 games to start the season. He looked better and had chances, but that is a product of playing with TK -- TK is a legit top line player who creates offensive chances for others around him.

This year, he's played a lot with Frost, Tippett and Couts. Frost has been bad for the most part this season, Tippett has only started looking good in the last 3-4 games (playing with TK, who would have thought lol), and Couts same thing.
