There are no longer excuses for Frost.
It's not whether Poehling is better or worse, it's that they shouldn't be comparable in the first place.

Frost has been given every opportunity to seize a top 6 slot and run with it.
Meanwhile Laughton and Poehling have clearly out played him.

I don't know why Frost has regressed, he's got speed, he's worked at learning how to play defense, but he's always tended to go MIA for stretches, now he's MIA period.

Maybe he's just a dreaded "tweener."

Why? I think he understood the assignment. Tank, acquire assets, draft low, build. The Sharks' prospects/young players are pretty top end, both F and D. I cannot believe you just framed playing with 2023-24 Cam Atkinson as a positive.

We have got to stop this framing of everyone else's expectations being out of whack. All I have ever thought Frost could be is a solid Middle 6 Forward. Not a star. Not whatever other qualifier like line carrier you put on it. Those guys when cost-controlled are valuable assets. If it takes until a guy's 3rd NHL contract to start getting some value, you've already missed the point.

When we have this discussion, you talk about what Tortorella has done. I talk about everything that's happened since 2019. There's no way to make those two points of view intersect.
