15th Overall, Michael Brandsegg-Nygaard

I feel like MBN has the Lucas Raymond sophomore potential. As in, everybody's like "Lol his production" because he was 4th lined in the SHL, and then he comes in during camp and forces the team to play him.

Granted, Raymond had greater draft pedigree and walked onto a much worse forward roster.

My brother, this team still sucks. Nobody in the bottom 6 should be safe save for Soderblom. The rest can all be fired from a trebuchet.

MBN would bring more than Berggren, motte, tank and Ras as a bottom 6 winger TODAY. I want to see him scoring in the A, but if we think he can put in 15 in the NHL? Play him there.

Not really the same situation, even if the team sucks.

Raymond was able to walk on because he could walk onto a Top 6 role. Just because MBN could play in the bottom 6 doesn't mean they would. They're still very much of the mentality that he'd be better served getting Top AHL minutes than bottom NHL minutes.

There were also injuries when Raymond made the team. He might not have made the team if not for Vrana's injury at the time.

15 goals would put him 6th on the team, and Elmer is the only returning player that might also hit that level. This team really does suck.

Screw it, just put him on the top line. Worked for Ray and Kasper. Besides, even Kubalik and Perron can score when playing with DBoss.

I think the ultimate question/debate is do you see MBN developing better on the first line in GR or in a bottom 6 role for the wings.

Realistically I don’t think he makes the team in the top 6. At least not right this moment. A nice summer in the gym and training hard, who knows, but as of now I think he doesn’t make the top 6 for the wings.

Personally I think the more patient route is the way to go. Put him on the top line in GR, at the least on the second line. Let him be one of the guys to lean on. Let him gain confidence offensively. Let’s try to tap into all his offensive potential. Then in 2026 let him fight his way into a top 6 role for the wings.

This is why I really don’t understand how Steve’s highest praise has been drafting, basically saying just about every pick has been a home run.

Then we look and see guys like Danielson, MBN, and Cossa who now look questionable at best. Has his drafting really been that good?

So, Seider, Raymond, Edvinsson and Kasper just stop existing for you?

Cmon, I know you love to play the role of Debbie Downer, especially any time any prospect doesn't light the world on fire, but this complaint is weak sauce. You try too hard.

If its one thing MBN is ready for its the physical play of the NHL.
Kid's a brick. Could maybe improve a little more too, but he's got the physicality to play.

What he needs to is develop sustainability in terms of handling the intensity over lots and lots of games and travel. And work on his offense. Being more creative, more determined and all of those aspects. So in that regards, I would lean towards him maybe playing a season in GR in their top six.

On the other hand you could toss him onto the 3rd line and shuffle him a bit up and down the line-up throughout the season for him to do what he can well and build upon that in the NHL.
That would be interesting if they did it that way, I don't think they will. But, other teams have had success with giving young guys the chance, though it must be within what he already good at now and build on that.

How has he looked in his 3 games with Grand Rapids?
Focusing mainly on keeping up with the pace. Has had some chances on goal in the first two games but he's down on line 4 now as Elmer returned to GR. MBN needs to refine his puck reception and passing. Not playing his usual physical game as he's adjusting to the pace thus far instead of being reckless. He should spend this summer working on his skills and next year in the AHL would be best

The only way to put value to Yzerman's drafting would be to look at his first round picks who have arrived in the NHL. In a consensus make believe redraft, would they go higher than their actual selection. I would have to stay "yes" to everyone of his first round picks. I believe Yzerman maintains less control of later picks and they have been lower yields.

I’m sorry what? You think Danielson goes higher than 9? You think Cossa goes higher than 15 still being in the minors on his 4th pro year? MBN who had like 10 point in his D+1? Who are these guys passing in a redraft? Even Edvinsson, who do you have him higher on within that top 5 on the 2021 draft? I just think you’re wayyyy overvaluing our guys.

Like always. you skip content without reading. First round picks that have arrived in the NHL.

It is way too premature to predict where any of those mentioned will land. And yes, Edvinsson may be our top defensive stud.
Okay admittedly did miss that part. But I disagree with the assessment that Ed would go higher in a redraft.

I might. Plante looks like a well rounded player that you don’t question his work ethic and commitment.
What I like most of him is his passing, especially how much he progressively passes the puck. Both him and Lombardi have that talent, speed, and motor to their game. Reminds me a lot of the wingers Tampa has had at times over the years.

The real question at hand is do you think his progression offensively becomes stunted if he’s in the NHL playing in more of a checking role vs in the AHL getting top 6 minutes.

Personally I’m for the later of the two.

Still think it would be a breathe of fresh air seeing another rookie crack the line up next year, just think there are others who are closer to being ready compared to MBN. I wouldn’t mind letting him ripen and maximizing his full offensive potential by doing so (if need be).
