Are you a little confused today?

MBN is playing in a men's league this season after playing in a second tier men's league last season. He only played in 7 junior games.

Eiserman played for USNDPT last season and plays in college. Both are amateur leagues. While there isn't an age limit in college, there's only 4 years of eligibility and nobody besides you would consider it a men's league, especially considering that nobody gets paid.

Regardless, Hage is doing better than Eiserman. Hage leads the team in every offensive category as well as +/-. He's the one I wanted, but Yzerman had to have his "hard to play against" kid.
College is no longer amateur. It’s adults getting paid to play.

Raymond's first SHL Season:
18 points in 34 games...0.53ppg

Kasper's first SHL Season:
23 points in 52 games...0.44ppg

MBN's first SHL Season (so far):
8 points in 21 games...0.38ppg

He's behind Kasper...who wasn't really drafted to be a point-producer...so, no, it's not great. Common-sense would dictate he has a stronger 2nd half than 1st, points aren't everything, etc., etc., etc.

The concerning thing to me about him is our development staff seemed to want him in GR this yr, and he basically told them to go fk themselves.

Besides Buchelnikov signing that stupid KHL extension...we really haven't had a single other draft pick who did something like that.

Those SHL season's are not comparable, because the league level has raised much higher. (Thanks to KHL player exits and bigger TV_money, than before 2022)

Only comparables should be seasonal comparables, not anything like 2024 vs. 2019.

Or he’s just the only one where we heard about it.

I would guess this is a common “battle” most teams face with their European prospects. NHL teams would *prefer* the player come over and play for the farm team and the player would *prefer* to stay where they are. Then they have a conversation about it and a decision is made. I doubt anyone is telling anyone to “f*** themselves”. Also it’s not like both leagues have not shown to be viable for prospects to play and develop in.

I will say again, personally I do not think it is an issue that MBN wanted to play in Sweden as opposed to cross the pond.

Every other instance the Red Wings brass has sung the praises of the SEL and said they'll do a great job with xyz prospect.

This was the only one where they stated a clear preference for him to be in NA, and disappointment that he refused.

No rush for Buchelnikov, he needs to get stronger.
Probably Yzerman first mistake in the first for Detroit

MBN looks like a very fine NHL middle-six wing prospect to me.

With Buchelnikov the issue is...what kind of defensive habits is he forming there?

He's very talented offensively...but he's not a Kane-like freak. If he was, we'd be hearing a lot more about him. At his size, whether he makes it or not will probably be entirely dependent on his defensive effort, habits, and ability to play strong for his size. It would have been much better for him to be in the AHL grinding it out. But we'll see what emerges in two yrs. He's tracking to probably be the KHL's top point producer by the time his contract's up.

Buchelnikov will be better defensively than Berggren, but not as good as Danielson, Kasper or MBN, but that's the reason they were talking for their 2 way game

Context matters. Not all picks are equal, and we shouldn’t have the same expectations for every single pick.

4th overall pick in a great draft year. Was talked about at times as the #1 overall pick. Was given a good amount of PP1 usage in the year you mention.
8th overall pick in a weak draft year. Got those numbers mostly from the 3rd line as an 18 year old on a diminished Rogle team. Was at .5ppg most of the year but was injured around the 40 game mark and played through it.
15th overall pick in a too early to tell draft year. Not getting top 6 or top pp minutes in just his first SHL season.

Not to mention, he's comparing just d+1 season stats. Raymond and Kasper already had multiple seasons with their teams/programs by their d+1s. MBN not only jumped teams, but levels as well. It takes time to adjust. I bet we'd see a decent jump in his SHL production next season, but he most likely will be over here starting next season.

Raymond’s first SHL season was 10 points in 33GP.

Kasper’s first SHL season was 11 points in 46GP.

First SHL season post draft...hence the comparison to MBN's first SHL season post draft.

But you already knew that.

Do you want to spell-check all of my previous posts as well? Thank God you're here.

That’s called a d+1. Do you want us to read other words than the ones you’re writing?

Either way it’s a bad comparison because league experience matters. MBN isn’t as good of a prospect as Raymond was, but looking only at points is going to have you making some bad conclusions.

I just followed Brandsegg-Nygård in Division 1A J20 Worlds and you guys have to pull the brakes for a bit on this guy. He is not even close to NHL level yet.

He wasn't invisible or anything, he was just not up to that challenge at all. He was battling very well all the time and has a lot of energy to his game with and without the puck. Lots of puck battles along the board and all that. But also losing a lot of pucks, not a sound passing game, not a driver that made players around him better at this tournament.

He has a great shot, but wasn't able to put himself in the right positions to get to the dangerous areas with the puck or to receive a pass.

Last but not least: He was supposed to be the leader of a team that was clear favourites to win the promotion, but they falied miserably and lost to both Denmark and Austria on the back of Brandsegg-Nygård only producing one single point in five games. A massive disappointment and underachievement by both himself and the team he was leading.

Oh, by the way: His skating is not to his advantage. Technically he has a few problems that I will be surprised if he overcomes.

I also might have to admit, that I was already very skeptic of him as a first rounder when he was drafted last year, so I might have been influeced by this stand. You now, wanting to be right about what I said in the summer. But I tried to look at him with objective lenses.

Brutal

Don't listen to the nonsense. MBN said he just joined Norway J20 to stay with the boys for a while, been a very busy year for him and lot of games. He was tired and didn't plan to be a key player in that tournament, he didn't even wear a letter I think.

You have to consider that he had 25 shots in those 5 games. Only 1 going in is just how hockey goes sometimes in small samples. Considering the fact that he had 5 points in 5 games in the tournament last year when in the main division, I don't think it's cause for concern.

He had a groin injury in the preseason with Detroit. His skating looked better last year, so I wonder if he’s playing through it.

Skellefteå vs Färjestad today.

Agree with this, MBN was so mad he smashed his stick to pieces when that shot didn't go in. He's obviously a bit frustrated about his lack of scoring, but he's shooting, just some bad puck luck. At least his emotions are there...

This is wishful thinking, but not the truth.

He was as devastated as everyone else on the team. If you think the U20 worlds is something to just sneeze at in Norway, you are dead wrong. Dead wrong!

Norway has had some great years lately and has been hoping to get into the top flight on a permanent basis. Hoping to emulate what Latvia has been doing for the past 4-5 years. Remember Norway has a lot more ice rinks than Latvia and their junior development system has taken a long step forward for the past five years and hopefully this will continue for them to reach the goal.

It's like you're forgetting how much U20 means to Canada and USA. It's no joke. It's not just "staying with the boys". Why are you condescending the feeling Norwegan players are feeling about representing their country in an extremely important tournament for them? You have no clue at all.

I have enough clue to tell you that I was there in Bled, Slovenia during that tournament. I happen to be around Norwegian players, without getting into details.
