That was one of the more exciting games I’ve seen from this team as of late. It seems they are starting to own Price, Bless your heart Chris Kreider. That has to be the most goals they ever scored against him.

Quinn’s face when Pionk scored was priceless.

If anyone was scouting Hayes tonight, a) the price went up and b) the Rangers clearly have the young players ready to take his place.

Second best skater on the team. He better bring back a sizable haul of futures and I don’t want him to be in the East to deal with on a regular basis.

I thought for sure we were getting Montreal'd after that bull**** hooking penalty to Vesey.

Thank goodness for Neal "I got this" Pionk
That call is being overlooked here.

One of THE WORST calls I have ever seen. If we didn't pull this one out, that would have been the story.

also did anyone else read David Quinns lips after that call?

Something about poultry poo

I didn’t see the game, and while I still think this team is destined for being in the top five of the upcoming draft, there’s nothing wrong with a victory like last night. When your goal scorers include Pionk, DeAngelo and Buchnevich, and you find the resilience to come back from being down 3-1, I see nothing but positives. You need to see development and progression. It’s not just accumulating assets all the time. You also need potential trade assets like Hayes to build their value. There are going to be peaks and valleys, especially when the inevitable trades come.

Don’t look now, but, Kreider and Zibanejad are on 38 and 33 goal paces respectively.

I love seeing growth and contributions from the younger players. Ultimately, this will be their team moving forward.

Like you, I ultimately feel this team will be picking pretty high come draft day. But i want them to have milestones and take baby steps throughout the season.

They are going to match up better with some teams than others and that will continue throughout the year.

Right where we need to be. out of the playoffs, picking 10th.

Eh. Still plenty of time.

A bunch of those teams have played less games than us and are still close enough in points that they could conceivably pass us by the time they reach the same GP mark.

Blues/Carolina/Arizona will likely end ahead of us. Vegas/Anaheim/NJ are toss-ups. Kings/Wings/Cats are the real question.

Season is not even 1/4 done, so there really is no point in looking at standings too seriously.

And how many of those teams are likely to trade two of their top scorers and continue to add youth to their lineups? I know Hughes is the prize, but if the Rangers were to walk away from the upcoming draft with Podkolzin and Newhook, I’d be very happy.

I think I am going to change the title of this thread to *Reminder* and sticky it. This way, when we go on a 3-4 game losing streak in a few weeks I can easily point back to this thread and show you how the season has ups and downs. :)

Flipping back and forth between this game and... other stuff. Looks like they played well. So happy they won. I want a high pick but I also want our young guys to get a taste of winning.

Frankly, it was a good victory from guys who we are counting on to be a big part of this team's future.

Accumulating assets is important, and this team will need more of them moving forward. But at some point, you need to actually see contributions from those assets your accumulating or else its all for naught.

As for Kreider and Zibanejad, this is exactly what they should be doing. Nothing they are doing right now is out of the realm of their abilities. Kreider was always capable of more than 20 goals and 40 points, and Zibanejad continues to be one of the more underrated talents we've had in a long time.

Zibanejad is a former 6th overall pick, whom we acquired at only 23 years of age, and who is still only 25. The kid has first line potential and talent. It's always been a matter of putting it together, and staying healthy. But in a world where we consistently over-project certain talents, Zibanejad is a guy this board whose full potential this board has never fully grasped.

Ebb and flow. Ebb and flow.

It's the same thing with prospects. When they start hot, everyone projects them as future allstars and top 6 forwards.

When they hit a bump, we dismiss them.

I know people are clamoring for the Rangers to get their Matthews, but I just want our version of Schiefele. Get that type of center added to what this team is adding elsewhere, and I believe you will build a Cup contender.

My question is, can Zibanejad become our Schiefele? He has the talent to do so.

And the Rangers are going to have some tantalizing talent at the top of this draft who play the center position.

Let's even take Hughes and Kakko out of the equation for a minute. You're still looking at a draft that features Dach, Cozens, Turcotte, Newhook, Kaliyev, Podkolzin, Suzuki, Boldy and Byram.

great game.

its exciting to see young guys like pionky, deangelo, lias and buch all contribute to a big win. last night was very satisfying.

this was a team win. TEAM win.

at this point, its about building a culture of winning. its about changing the dynamic of the team and building something around a new system based on consistent commitment and speed and skill.

last night we saw that coming together....

now having said that, resume the tank.

I say let the chips fall where they may. I'm anti tank at this point, it was right last year but I think if you are showing you have given up now then it sends the wrong message to the guys on the roster who are in the future plans. I still think that's what happened to Edmonton and Buffalo, losing was the norm and frustration followed. I'm really encouraged by what I saw out of Lias last night and I feel Chytil was better too, maybe another young guy pushing for his spot helps? Lots of If's on this team but I think everything this coach has done has made every player he's benched or sent down a little better. I wasnt much of a fan of vesey the last couple years but even he looks like a much better player.

I've always liked Hayes and I think his play has gotten better year to year and better this year. I like his skill set.

Is there no room or reason to build WITH him? Or is he massively redundant with younger players who can do what Hayes can do.

One of the good things about last night's game was how well all our really young guys did. Andersson and Chytil didn't put up any points but they had solid games. DeAngelo with a clutch goal and played good D. Buch with the clutch tying goal and he looked engage. Pionk with a stunner of a goal. Vesey and Skjei were really good too. When you have guys like that carrying their weight it's a good thing to see them rewarded with wins. Howden would have probably been really good too. It shows our kids can accomplish things.

On Staal--to me he's been really good. That game tying goal started with a nifty play in his own end out to Hayes and ended with him taking a shot that handcuffed Price allowing Buch to stuff home the rebound. Staal had snarl last night. When he plays with an edge he's a lot more effective. Another player who's been really hitting guys is Zibanejad.

If I was moving an RD it's probably Shattenkirk--even before McQuaid. To me Pionk and DeAngelo could handle the PWP time just fine--put up more offense (or at least the same) and play better on D. We'd cut out a big contract besides and Shatty should get us a 1st + something else.

Not only has DeAngelo played really well and his pairing with Skjei looked really good, but I just think he's a hilarious player between the whistles. Literally every break in the action he's jawing at someone or slashing someone's legs and trying to goad someone into something. He's Avery like in that way. Plus anytime something goes down when he's on the ice, he's the first one to throw himself into the fray.

He might be small but he definitely doesn't care. He's like a human version of an annoying yappy dog that won't leave you alone and keeps nipping at you. I really like it.
