Colin scratched last nite. They have no confidence in the guy.
No doubt if we sign this kid, he'll get some games in with the big club even in a playoff run.

When can we sign that kid from Notre Dame?? I watched the game Saturday and he was everywhere. He'll be playing this year on the B's too if we sign him.

Where?

I'd be very surprised if either Mac or JFK went back to BU.

Found where I read it. It was actually from another poster in a different forum and he had mentioned it was from Kirk on Reddit

Finally JFK- 2 weeks ago, he was coming out & made that known on the down low. Now, with BU bleeding talent left and right, he's re-thinking his 2017-18 plans. Bruins want him to come out, BU obviously wants him to stay for one more year. I guess we'll find out soon, but this highlights the fluid situations we deal with when it comes to signing prospects esp. in the NCAA.

They can sign him whenever technically, but they'll certainly try once his season is over. They play again Saturday I believe.

The welcome mat appears to be ready for McAvoy according to Bob McKenzie!

"Charlie McAvoy is expected to make sign an amateur tryout to play with the Providence Bruins this week and could still make his Boston Bruins debut this season, according to TSN Hockey Insider Bob McKenzie.
McKenzie notes the Bruins will have to decide whether they want to burn a year off of McAvoy's entry-level contract - which will occur if he appears in any of their remaining six games.
The 19-year-old defenceman scored five goals and added 21 assists in 38 games with Boston University this season. He scored two goals and added four assists in seven games while playing for the United States at the 2017 World Junior Championship.
The Long Beach, NY. native was selected 14th overall in the 2016 NHL Draft.
He could join Auston Matthews, Patrik Laine, Jesse Puljujarvi, Matthew Tkachuk, Clayton Keller, Mikhail Sergachev and Jakob Chychrun as the eighth member of the draft class to play this season.
Keller, McAvoy's teammate at Boston University, made his debut for the Arizona Coyotes on Monday."

We'll if we're taking out Colin and putting in Liles, put in McAvoy. Can't hurt. I don't agree with Cmiller sitting but if you're gonna do it, id rather put in Charlie than JM. If he makes a mistake, so be it. We'll be used to it

Play em.

As much as the prospect of McAvoy suiting up for the Bruins in the last few games of the season is exciting, I do not think it would be wise to burn a year off his ELC and have Carlo and McAvoy become RFAs at the same time.

That's surprising, I thought JFK was the safest bet to come out after this year...I'm not sure college hockey has anything left to offer him. Also, wouldn't you think the opposite of what Kirk said would be true? If BU is bleeding talent and looking at a down year, wouldn't now be the time to bail if you're JFK? Weird development there...

There is no proof of this whatsoever.

Colin is the 6th D-man right now as he is on the 3rd pair and his special teams roll is minimal. Liles can't sit forever. Someone has to come out for Liles to get some game time.

If McAvoy does end up getting games in Boston this season, it's because they have confidence in McAvoy that he's one of the D who should be in the line-up, not because of a lack of confidence in other players.

This. I've been preaching it on here for days now, but for someone as talented as McAvoy, that extra ELC year could be huge down the road. I get everyone's desire for help and to throw him in immediately, but that's probably just not the best long-term plan. He'll get roughly comparable experience playing a good portion of the games left in the AHL, so just preserve that year...we've already seen the effectiveness of that scenario with Carlo.

Just so we're clear.

If McAvoy plays even 1 regular season game with the Bruins this season, it burns one year of his 3-year ELC deal, and he would be a RFA in the summer of 2019?

If McAvoy plays even 1 playoff game but no regular season games for the Bruins this year, it doesn't count towards one-year of his contract, and he's an RFA in the summer of 2020?

Can anyone confirm that this is in fact how it works?

Because if it is, leaving his debut, if they feel he is ready, until the playoffs, if they get that far, is a no-brainer. Why burn that year for 6 freakin' games unless it's part of the wink-wink agreement between Boston and the McAvoy camp to get him under contract right now.

No. If he touches the ice for the Bruins at all (regular season or playoffs), he burns a year. Actually I'm pretty sure if he signs his ELC and touches the ice for Providence at all, it burns a year as well.

That's why they're going the ATO route.

edit - if you need confirmation for that, the Rangers signed Chris Kreider in 2012 specifically for their playoff run and it burned a year of his ELC to play, so playoffs do appear to count.

So he's not signing an ELC at all right now, strictly an ATO with Providence. Makes sense.

Thanks.

Love it. Get him some pro experience down there, and if the B's make the playoffs and he's excelling in Providence, then they can consider whether or not to burn that year.
Yup, looks like that is direction the Bruins will go in:

Don't think I would use McAvoy this year and burn off a year of his ELC, unless he lights it up in Providence, even then. I would though use Bjork right away and see what he can do, anything to get Hayes out of the lineup he has more lives than a cat. Beleskey no confidence in him this year, but never know he could bring it in the playoffs. I would love Cehlarik and Bjork in the lineup, send Czarnik back the AHL for the year.

yea- the kid from notre dame. I just mentioned him.
His name is Bjork. He will go right into the lineup this year if he's available

I mean maybe for a game or two, but if you're expecting him to be an impact player right away I wouldn't bet on it.

I'd prefer him over Hayes though, obviously.
