At one point, I had a phone that was only available in emerging markets (mostly India and SEA). You know to check the bands, so that’s all you need.

Plenty of good options these days.
Dang you a rebel.

Yeah I'm just annoyed at how I sound like an old man because I'm mad about all these phones getting rid of basic features. Is this how old people felt when they stopped using 8 tracks?

I miss the Nexus line so much. High end hardware, mid-range prices. I still have a custom security-hardened Nexus 6P that I use for just work.

Dumb question, but is there anything Roku and fire sticks, etc. do that your normal smart TV can’t do on it’s own? I just picked up the LG B4 and it’s all already there.

Another benefit is if you travel, you can bring the fire stick with you.

It also came in clutch while my wife was in labor.

Oh we're talking about tech in here? Nice. I hate how everything has been gotten rid of in smartphones. Headphone jack gone. MicroSD card slot for expandable storage gone.

Mulling over getting a Samsung Galaxy A55 or the S24FE (Black Friday sale) and the MicroSD card is really making me lean towards the A55.

Frick Apple and their cost cutting and everyone following suit.
Be mindful that many electronics are manufactured with inferior parts and have slightly different serial numbers specifically for Black Friday.
If the serial numbers virtually match but had an added letter ,at the end let’s say, it’s a lesser quality product.

Very good advice, but phones generally don’t do this. TVs are of course the most egregious example.

@Chinatown88 I assume this came up today because BB has the S24 FE for 475 unlocked?

Yuppers.

Probably just gonna get the A55. I need my SD card slot for all the pics I have to take soon. Too many kiddos in the family/extended family now.

Verizon sent me an email this morning offering a Pixel 9 Pro XL for free with no change in plan. It might be a good year to buy.

Not sure how much you care about privacy, but smart TVs are known for being huge data collectors. I think it is always better to have the "smart" features on a TV off (no Internet connection) and just use a device like a Roku stick, nVidia Shield, or an Apple TV.

Yeah, I may have to rethink this. I'm not sure that I want it out there that I've watched the Flyers play this season.
