I'm pretty sure it has been just this season, which started at the beginning of September. I only picked up on it last week because I saw someone reply to his post mentioning he played in a game where we got 10 goaled. If it wasn't catching the quoted post, I skipped last his actual post, we would probably still have no idea 😂

Where do you guys play?

This is a long shot, but... Has anyone here been to Olympics of any sort and have any idea what to expect re: hospitality package pricing? I signed up (and paid a refundable deposit) to get personalized offers for Milano 2026 (will focus on hockey, of course) and seems like the hospitality package sales will open soon.

So I saw my first concert at the PPL Center in Allentown Monday night. Pretty nice venue for concerts. Duran Duran was also surprisingly still good...thoroughly enjoyed the show..

I didn't have to travel for the Olympics in 2010, but event tickets were done by lottery. No idea about the hospitality aspect.

One thing to note for 2010 was that Visa was a marquee sponsor, so tickets could only be purchased using Visa credit cards. If you only had Mastercard, then you wouldn't have been able to get tickets.

I ended up getting tickets to Czechia/Slovakia and Finland/Belarus round robin hockey games. Based on where I got picked in the lottery, all Canada, USA, and medal round tickets were long gone.

We went to some other events, too, but the best part of the Olympic experience for me was going to the country houses and watching events on big screens where those countries were medal hopefuls... like going to the Dutch House and watching speed skating. So even if you can't get to live events that you wanted, make sure you pop into the country houses for a fun experience.

Thanks a ton for taking your time to write this! I will visit country houses for sure.

I spent 200eur (refundable) to get early access:

As a Priority Access client, your deposit means you'll have the exclusive opportunity to select from Ticket-Inclusive Hospitality packages and Ticket-Inclusive Overnight packages ahead of the general public.

Otherwise, yes - as you stated - it's lottery-based.

The goal is getting to all Latvian hockey team group stage games. Then it gets tricky because you can't get tickets to exact 1/8 final game with Team Latvia playing as you don't know where they will qualify right?

Yeah, the medal round is a crap shoot because it depends on where teams finish in their groups.

In 2010, Canada was expected to win their group, but finished second to the USA and ended up on the other side of the bracket. Those that paid for Canada's expected path to the gold medal game got to watch the US advance to the Final instead.

I went to the Montreal Olympics in 1976 but I think things are a lot different now. I didn’t have tickets or a place to stay but I managed to see the gold medal handball match and the final day of track & field.

80eur seems very affordable (even CatA is not THAT bad, assuming I want to see all Team Latvia games, so multiplied by 3, for once in a lifetime event). Now, if I could have a crystal ball and predict where they will qualify in the group...! :D

The Devils Redwings game was electric. For starters I love the wings vibe. They take no shit, but the best part of this game? The very end. Rasmussen picks up the puck in the corner and takes it toward the net to seal the game with an empty netter. Jack Hughes, a guy that is world famous for his physicality, skates toward the net and tries to lay the body to stop him from scoring. Rasmussen f**kin drops him, taps the puck in stares Hughes down and yells "woooo!".

That's not even the most electric part though. The best part is afterwards Jack Hughes pops up from the ice like he is about to do something about it. Like...Jack...bro... you just got lit the F up. Sit down and take the L and head home lil guy.

The real tragedy of having so much fun is that unfortunately we all will never know why Jack found the word "Woooo" so offensive he had to pretend he was capable of being tough

Wonder if they actually have proper nerds that can appropriately value your collection.

I only contacted the ones that do. I also have a buddy who runs a large volume store where he would sell on consignment, but I can’t expect him to sell all of it that way.

This is going to be tricky because a lot of the stuff is unique. For example, one of my Beta Black Lotuses has a sketch of a guy smelling the flower and signature on it done by the original artist who has since passed. I have no idea where to even start with that. Without the sig and art, it’s probably 50-60. It won’t grade well because someone drew on it. But it’s worth some kind of premium.

Did you get hit with the value implosion from a few weeks ago?

Luckily no. My stuff is all very old (93-99ish) and immune to those things. It's stuff that's mostly valuable because it's rare, not because people use them to play at their weekly whatever. And WOTC put it in writing that they can't ever reprint them, so unless the game dies, it only goes up.

It's just worth too much not to sell at this point. I'd rather cash out, invest in low risk assets, and stop stressing about whether Hasbro's greed will kill it.
