I wonder if he's wearing them on floors. Socks wear so much faster that way.
I guess that'd be it. I always wear socks around the house. Six months might have been a slight exaggerating, maybe a little less than a year. I've got to keep my feet covered around the house, never been a slipper guy. What do you do when you're sitting on the couch?

I don't wear shoes around the house. I switched to almost all Darn Toughs ~8 years ago and I've never had to replace one. Even the hiking socks are still great.

An enlisted officer buddy got me into them by explaining that they were the only ones he'd ever found that combat boots didn't shred.

If I wasn't neurotic about onlt having one brand of socks, these would be my #2.

I do have a couple of the different Bombas Sesame Street sets. They're comfortable too. Just don't wear as well.

I do the same. I've worn holes into my 3ish year old under armour socks within the last year. What changed? Moving to my mainly un-carpeted new house. These socks kept for years at my parents house, mostly carpet. 6-8 months in the new house and I'm replacing them all

Who still makes t-shirts that don't fall apart in months?

Carhartt (or Dickies)

Some people swear by Uniqlo, but they're a terrible cut for me personally, so I can't attest. Some people also just buy plain versions of one of the favored brands that get printed on by other places. nextlevel-N6210 is one I keep seeing suggested, but again I can't tell you personally because I only buy V necks. Those are ~$5.

These are great for wearing around the house.

Slippers | Order slippers, felt slippers & felted shoes
Bad thing about slippers is they all mostly look horrendous but hopefully nobody wears them outdoors unless putting out the trash, getting the mail etc..hopefully you are clothed as well if you do go out with slippers. Reminds me back in the day Dino Ciccarelli got busted for indecent exposure putting out his trash naked or in his underwear..not sure if he wore slippers at least.

These are obviously quality the second you touch them. I grabbed a pair of Glerups and a pair from Quoddy for my Dad for Christmas a few years ago and he swears by both of them religiously. I've seen him change brake pads in the Glerups.

FWIW we have hardwood almost everywhere.

Yeah, Glerups aren’t cheap but they will probably last longer than I will and they are comfy.

I remembered Garfiield's line verbatim after all these years.

Also, if the house shoes are already on and I have to run to the store for something, house shoes it is.

I'm only 33 but I'm already starting to feel it. In high school I could eat anything and still not gain weight. I think I graduated at 125 pounds, and I was 5'10". Now I'm up to ~165 on average. I'm just glad I have a job that keeps me on my feet all day. If I was sitting at a desk I'd probably be looking at an extra 20 pounds.

That math is correct. I was sixty pounds over where I want to be. Paternity leave got me down to 40 pounds over. The office tax is huge
