I think this is just a fun thought experiment based on what is "natural" vs what is a "social construct". Personally, I prefer to be by myself most of the time. Took me a while to accept that I didn't "have" to force being in a relationship strictly because that is what we're "supposed" to do. I just simply don't have the desire or need to interact with people on a regular basis. It is interesting in that when you look at other species some of them develop tight paired relationships, others live in groups, and some live solitary lives, but none of them have a "social construct" of what they're being told they are supposed to do.

I follow a similar rule. If you are not at the very least having a neutral impact on my life, you're out. I essentially treat every interaction I have with people like an episode of ESPN's Around the Horn. You get positive points for good contributions and negative points for bad contributions. If you hit 0, you're out, but I'm also willing to be very upfront with why you're getting negative points. If you continue to provide those bad contributions because you don't care enough to reflect on how they are impacting me, then you're cut.
