Seriously? That doesn't get called all the time. Was it a penalty? Yes, it was. But it was weak and they often let stuff like that go.

New to hockey?

So you admit it was a penalty..... and you're complaining because it's missed sometimes, but was called that particular time.

And I'm the noob

Barely qualifies as a dive. No padding there, got whacked right on the ligament, likely. Went down out of pain and surprise. Sensationalist thread.

I can see why the ref might call that a dive but i dont think he did dive. An awkward spot that is likely painful and I could see if there was pressure it would cause the knee to buckle automatically too like hitting your funny bone.

Looked pretty immediate, and a normal reaction...it's not like the stick and gloves went flying.

This thread may be up for the embellishment post of the year though.

Not even close to dive of the year.

I'm not even sure it was a dive. The back of the knee has no protective padding, and that's definitely a spot that can cause you to drop. Even a light tap from the stick there can hurt, and it wouldn't surprise me if his leg just buckled a bit.

I don't know if that was the case here, but it definitely looks like it could be.

The rule book cares.

"69.6 Rebounds and Loose Pucks - In a rebound situation, or where a goalkeeper and attacking player(s) are simultaneously attempting to play a loose puck, whether inside or outside the crease, incidental contact with the goalkeeper will be permitted, and any goal that is scored as a result thereof will be allowed."

That's fine and dandy, but the contact was not incidental...

So I guess that if the Ole-ole shouldn't be sang 'cause it's a soccer chant...should the Yes! Yes! Yes! chant by the Isles fan stand even if it's a wrestling gimmick? Or the Woooo! by Boston fans after goals even if it's another wrestling gimmick? My answer? Yep...it should all stands....people are having fun. Would love to see what fans of this superb main board will say though.....let's try to stop the double standards please.

You're the one who doesn't understand what "weak penalty" seems to mean. That was the comment. I never said, "that wasn't a penalty". If you like games called super tight all the time, that's your prerogative, but pretending like there isn't a massive difference in holding penalties does suggest you don't know anything about the game.

Tavares had Subban beat there..... that would have certainly resulted in decent scoring chance. It was not a weak penalty.

The guys on the Islanders broadcast are hilarious. They sounds like junior broadcast commentators.

Howie Rose ("Matteau! Matteau! Matteau!") is fine, but I'm not a fan of the color commentary by Butch Goring (1981 Conn Smythe and a member of the Islanders dynasty).
