GDT: 11/1/24 - 8:00PM EDT - Tampa Bay @ Minnesota

Vassy has been good lately but he got outplayed in net tonight. Skaters were good enough. Minnesota simply owns the Lightning. Thankfully no more games against them this season
Agree. I don't know what the stats are but I'd bet we had more scoring chances. Vasy really didn't make any difficult saves. Other than the last one where he let an easy shot leak, the others were good shots, but not unstoppable. Get out of that house of horrors and move on.

Only 2 games thrown away so far out of 11, not great but could be worse. They really need to get 3 points out of the next 4 though to keep the early push going (against one of the hardest early schedules), and to have some success on an early road trip after the abysmal 1st one.

Because he's just doing cardio out there, adding nothing positive.
He didn't really do anything, which is the problem. Not a huge problem, but one I think we'd like to fix at some point this season

So he's a passenger. I guess, he's playing with Glendening and Girgensons though so IDK how much offense he's really expected to give. He's just way down the list of guys wearing goat horns tonight. The guys in my crosshairs right now are...

Vasy's 2nd goal he gave up
Hagel passing out of a vacant net opportunity
McDonagh on 1st goal abandoning his assignment

Vasy soft goal again, but what about this clear from Mcdonagh? if Serg had done something like that there would have been 5 pages of whining here

Or how about the 1st goal we gave up where he lost his assignment and didn't do anything? It was all Lightning until then, that's another play that cost us the game

Big Cat hasn't been great overall. That's a problem.

I'll give Hagel a bit of a pass since the rest of his game is pretty good.

Can't deal with guys who consistently do nothing. Atkinson being one. Girgensons has looked a little better lately but not where I'd want him to be. Glendening is just holding on at this point, not gonna get much offense from him. Eyssimont needs to be better he battles pretty well at the very least.

Vasilevsky should not play against certain teams. Toronto(!!!), Minnesota, Ottawa, Buffalo, Pittsburgh for sure. Just start JJ against them.

I love Hagel, normally amazing contributor but not this game.

Just hard to find fault in Atkinson, he's playing on a line with two guys who sell out to play well defensively, neither Zegmus or Luke have an offensive bone in their body. I do think he's way out of his element playing on the fourth line, I mean might as well scratch/send him down and bring up someone who is more defensive or can be a pain to play against, there is just zero chemistry there.

Gotta find a way to create more 5v5 against good defensive teams and not get pinned in our own zone in the latter half of these games. If we play that way on Sunday, we probably lose to the Jets 5-1.

4th line has been underwhelming. I thought Girgensons and Atkinson had a good chance of becoming fantastic bargains for this team but so far it's pretty meh. Not "bad" I guess, but you want to see more. They deserve time though. Glendening on the other hand is looking pretty cooked. Tough not having a real training camp but he's not bringing a ton to the table so far.

There's just no identity or spark there, your 4th line needs some pizzazz.

Yeah 4th line kinda sucks. Hopefully when a middle six winger is acquired Mikey can provide a spark there

Data from his games against those teams? Personal observations or hardcore research?
Just an observation based on the last 2-3 seasons. We already enjoyed his performance against Ottawa, Toronto and Minnesota. Against Pittsburgh he also looks bad and Malkin looks like he is from 2009. And when they play against Buffalo Thompson also looks like Malkin from 2009.

The 4th line has 3 guys making 800 or 900k, so I'm not sure what ppl are expecting here. Girgensons and Glendening have been fine for what they are. Atkinson isn't suited for that kind of use, but he's not going to be in the top 6 so Idk where he fits yet. One middle 6 add for the 3rd line is probably needed, but the 4th line isn't the reason they're losing these games.

1 point in a combined 30 games. I expected a tad better. Being defensively responsible is basically the bare minimum for a bottom line these days anyway and the PK hasn't been great.

All 3 deserve a bit more time for sure, 2 new faces and Glendening was injured to start camp. But it's not exactly looking good...yet.

Tampa has 2 good scoring lines and have a 3rd that can contribute. The offense isn't normally going to be the issue this season. Hagel made the biggest mistake and had a meh game. McD wasn't great either and Vasy let in one bad goal. Tampa failed to convert some good chances, mainly because they tried too often for an extra perfect pass from their better players. The 4th line not scoring isn't really an issue imo.

+/- is a dumb stat, but FWIW, Glendening, Girgensons and Atkinson had no goals scored against them when they were on the ice. Not a lot of minutes, but they did their job.

Sloppy passes killed us tonight.

They make less than a million but that's true for almost every team. And yet I believe there are only two teams in the league where the 4th line hasn't scored a single goal - Tampa and the Islanders. But even the top 6 Islanders can barely score, so it doesn't count. Poor Isles. Either way, I blame Cooper of course.

I'm not blaming the loss on the 4th line, they have simply underwhelmed in general. Again, it's not like they're terrible, but once you're past the 10 game mark I think it's fair to start the conversation.

Any line "not scoring" becomes an issue eventually. They are decent/solid defensively, not exceptional. PK has not impressed as mentioned. So yeah you can live with subpar offense (they've literally provide none) if they bring some other positive qualities, but there's basically no physical presence or energy. Being defensively sound is the least they can do at this point.

I have nothing against these guys, I like the players but something is missing so far.

4th line didn't allow any goals, and we shut down their PP.

just switch eyssimont and atkinson. see if atkinson can be more useful on the third line, and eyssimont is someone who just does his own thing so not like it matters who he plays with
