Doubt Laf gets going until Chytil comes back. Howden to me is the worst player on the team for the 2nd year in a row. No offense what so ever and zero creativity with the puck. I'm assuming Laf- Chytil-Blackwell will be the 3rd line when things start going Laf's way. That or if ADA gets moved for Bennett, I'm sure he'd be a good fit as well. Laf - Bennett/Chytil - Blackwell/Bennett 3rd line is nice.

Really think it should be, and want Shesty in tonight, 90% sure it won't be though for the following:

  • Georgiev has been around the team longer and has a track record of being average/mediocre, which is a coaches wet dream (grinder version of goalie), so by default Quinn 'trusts' Georgiev more despite weaker stats and performance. Advantage Georgiev.

  • Shesty had a bad game against the Islanders and the team followed up with a super easy shutout for Georgiev, who hasn't lost to the Isles. Coaches love correlational bs like that. Advantage Georgiev.

  • Georgiev had the incident with TDA after a terrible performance (again), and for team unity and getting the taste out of Georgiev's mouth the Coach will perform god's will and will try to unify the locker room (they're fine already) and get Georgiev back in the Win column, ignoring the more important form of our real starter (any fan will agree with that last). Advantage Georgiev.

  • Shety's slow start clearly moved him back from 'almost the starter' position, but Georgiev's even shittier start is him just 'working through it', so he'll get every opportunity to work through it while Shesty has to win the Cup before being anointed the number 1. Advantage Georgiev.

All of Quinn's other dumb roster moves I can swallow, this dumb 'massaging egos' goalie shit is infuriating. Shesty's returning to form, don't f*** with it and start him. The schedule is only getting more condensed and will continue to as Covid cancels games, save the rotation for when there are 5 games in 8 in days and you'll need it.

The only reason for such a move would be Georgiev's record against the Islanders. But this would be a gamble that would rightfully open up Quinn to a lot of second guessing. A LOT.
Imo the reason would be that Georgiev is going to have to play some games this season, he’s been through some very unusual difficult stuff recently and hasn’t had a great game in a bit, and the Isles are a very weak offensive team.

Playing your backup who really needs a good game against the worst offense you’ll play for a while isn’t a bad decision imo.

People will second guess and go absolutely nuts about any decision Quinn makes. It’s the story of this season so far - Quinn is the problem and no matter what happens it’s proof.

Also true

Hey guys, looking to pick up K'Andre Miller in my pool for the week, but he's on the taxi squad. Is it safe to assume he'll be recalled in time for the game and play all 4 of the Rangers games this week? (Barring injury of course)

Thanks in advance!

Yes they will. Fair or not, he has brought that upon himself. His decision making thus far has seemed erratic at best, so he is in a lose lose situation right now.

If he makes the correct coaching decisions, it will be seen as luck.

If me makes the wrong decisions, it will be seen as more of the same.

This won't change until he builds a track record of success which I'm not sure he is capable of.

Basically he hasn't done anything to earn the benefit of the doubt yet, so he will get unfairly judged. This isn't unique to NY

We just had 4 days off and our starter is rounding into form this shortened season, I feel like it's not really the time to try to get your backup a win for the feels.

Not for feels, for strategy. You don’t want your backup to be languishing over bad play and personal issues. If your starter gets hurt then you’re thrusting that person into a hugely important role. The next 3 games after this are against far better offenses. Georgiev should get a game to get his groove back, preferably one against a weak offense, so that he’s in better shape all around if god forbid he’s needed.

Valley a few days ago brought up this point about the goalie situation. Richter and Beezer split 50/50 in a season so they can get better practice and development sessions. There was no guessing on who would start.

The Islanders had success with this tactic two years ago with Greiss and Varly.

The question is, is their a plan? If its designed I'm good with it. If it isnt then this is just as much as an issue as the 3 headed goalie monster last year. It leaves you in a situation where one guy may or may not get in a groove and both goalies put extra unnecessary pressure on themselves to get extra game time.

Shit or get off the pot. Either say Igor is the guy and ride with him or clearly state its 50/50. This whole "we"ll see approach" isnt like holding the nuclear codes secret.

Given that this is the youngest team in the league, how much "winning" would constitute success?

Overachieving last year was not considered success?

Also, seems to me that folks 'round these parts cannot have it both ways. If you count winning as the only success, then you cannot also get on the coach for riding his veterans at times of the game.

But he's not mediocre all of the time, he's either awful or great, unpredictability is not what coaches like.

The Islanders game thread has Georgiev starting but that doesn't seem confirmed. If Quinn thinks Georgiev is as good as Shesterkin than he's dumber than a rock. Especially now given how well Shesterkin has played.
Hasn't Georgiev been like... really good against the Islanders though?

It should be Shesty in net, but I wouldn’t be shocked if starting Georgiev was an impetus for the roster to step up to the plate and play a solid game in front of him after the incident

Why start this discussion when neither goalie has been confirmed?

The idea that he has magical powers against the Islanders seems like nonsense to me.

Agreed. I would start Shesterkin, but there is a path to see why Quinn would start Georgiev.

Again I will add, it will be really interesting to see where Quinn comes down on this. No one will question him if Shesterkin starts and things go bad. Starting Georgiev and things going bad will open himself to lots of questions.
