GDT: #11 – Bruins at Sabres – Wed Oct 23 – 8:00PM ET – NBCSN, TSN2 – WGR-AM

Florida fan here, they play you on Friday, so I'm just wondering are they really a 1-9 team or has it been a lot of bad breaks?

It's been a daunting schedule even for a good team, so 1-9 is probably is a bit harsh, but they will be in the running for the top pick, no question.

We've played Detroit, Chicago, Vancouver, Pittsburgh and tonight we play Boston. Most teams would chalk those up as 5 losses, and we've played lesser playoff teams as well in Ottawa, NYI and Minnesota. Tampa and Columbus were the only games you look at and say you should win.

It's hard to say really. They've been in almost all of those games, with goaltending to thank in large part, but goaltending is of course part of the team. Lack of finish and lack of puck possession do the team in. In today's game, with how good the goaltending is and with how the game is played, you have to be able to cash in on opportunities and you have to be able to compete in puck possession.

They kept it close enough to have won many of those games, but the truth is they've been outplayed consistently. So yeah, they're really bad, but their record could easily be better in spite of that.

We're terrible. Thankfully, our goaltending has been excellent and is keeping us from getting murdered every night. Put it this way: We've led for 9:35 this entire season of a total 606:50. That's 1.57% of minutes played. And all 9:35 came against Tampa, and we blew two one-goal leads in that game and lost in OT.

Lowest goals/game... only win came in a shootout... shot totals of 40-20 against not surprising... ranked 29th in PP%, 27th in S/game, 28th in SA/game, 26th in FO%...

Only thing we can really hang our hats on is we're currently 7th in PK%. Goaltender Save % has been good but with all the shots we face we're still 18th in GA/game.

There's really no sugar coating it. You can see a lot of 1 goal games and think things like "keeping it close" or "being in every game" but if you watch the games and see how badly this team is outplayed you realize the games are never really close and we're not really in them at all.

Poke the bear!

:biglaugh: I expect the Sabres to get a drubbing, but it would be funny if there was a great deal of bear poking happening. A win the battles, lose the war sort of thing.

Well stated. Basically it's getting excellent goaltending most nights but with no offensive support, no sustained forecheck or puck possession, and generally shoddy defensive zone play by the forwards. They are lucky to have three points.

Bs fan here. Can't wait to watch Vanek score again on us. No lie, if I can find a prop bet that Vanek scores tonight, I will lay down an embarassing amount of money that he does. Probably on a power play, pass from the opposite side right in his wheel house and he puts it home. Bs win.

Just a guess, but it looks like the sabres are wearing their new 3rds tonight (based on their facebook page).

Found your prop bet:

Will Thomas Vanek Score A Goal
Yes +200
No -200

Gotta love that line. Guess the guy/gal that made that line isnt familiar with Vanek v Bruins, and must just be looking at the Sabres as the lowest scoring team this season.

I'm not placing the bet, was just looking to see if there was a prop bet out that on Vanek as mentioned by the other poster.

TheGreek

Looks like it is not permitted in the US. If it was I would put some money down on Vanek scoring a goal given those odds.

Just curious as to why? If the Bruins don't eclipse 45 shots on goal tonight, I'd be surprised.

Im very curious about Foligno at center. I have not hated him there, and this is a very tough matchup. Want to see how Girgensons - Larrson - Flynn competes vs Boston.

Want to see more of Zadorov obviously.
