With the discussion on Tryamkin possibly being signed in March when the KHL season is over is it possible we could see Podkolzin too? Sign him and play him a few games then he goes back to the KHL for the final year of that contract.

If he's not getting a whole lot of ice time there he could be relatively fresh if he comes here then.

Cam Robinson seems to think Podkolzin will be demoted to the VHL. That would be a pretty horrendous start to his D+1

That's what I was expecting all along and it would probably be a good move for him.

He's not going to get much ice time with SKA given the strength of their roster. In the VHL he should be able to establish himself as a top six forward and be counted on in offensive situations. That would be decent progress from last season, when he was a bottom six forward in the VHL (mostly a 4th liner).

Re Podkolzin to VHL... So what's the VHL equivalent to? Is it at least as strong as top NCAA hockey? I have no clue what the VHL is all about.

Last time I looked into this the VHL was deemed slightly better than the Allsvenskan.

For context, Pettersson put up a near PPG pace in Allsvenskan during his draft year.

Petterssons number were historic for that league at that age though.

Denisenko put up a .5 ppg last year in the vhl and I like him as a prospect. Truth be told I just dont know enough about the russian leagues, how each team utilizes young players to make a well informed judgement on what production we should expect.

Not worried at all. Season just started, Russians are notorious for being cautious with their rookies and limiting their ice time. Give it time. VHL is a solid league as well, I’d say it’s similar to AHL level.

His KHL numbers and playing time aren't a big concern to me. He's still practicing and playing against men in a high-caliber professional league. It'll be the international junior tournaments that are a better yardstick of his progress anyway.

It's too bad about the second year signed in the KHL.

This is so wrong. The KHL itself is probably below AHL level at this point.
