10 years. Time is up Shanahan.

All of talk in that season ending presser, but they still end up just doing the same thing. This guy is a loser and everybody he hires is a loser too. I am not convinced Tre or Berube are any good. I will be really pissed off if they re-sign Marner.
Berube seems pretty good to me.

edit: weird. this is an old thread. I simply responded because I got a notification that I was quoted.

There are issues with Berube. His style means injuries. He is playing playoffs early. That will hit hard as the season goes on.Toronto will slip to 4th or 5th. I don't think Tre can just give Berube what he needs, 2 hard competitors C and D.

That's interesting.

I have wondered if style of play could be leading to increased injuries. It's an interesting theory. I have a few thoughts on it.

(a) If playoff style hockey is getting us hurt, then we were never going to win. I don't believe you can just turn it on in April if you have never done it before. So, better get the guys used to it or bring in guys that are. Not playing this way is not a long term success strategy based on what we have seen.

(b) Are we seeing increased injuries due to style of play though? Matthews has been out, apparently from an injury that first flared up in training camp. It would be hard to pin that on style of play. After that I see McMann, Domi, Pacioretty, Kampf, McCabe, Dewar, Hakanpaa, and Stolarz as having missed/going to miss a material amount of games due to injury. Stolarz is a goalie (with an injury history) so that doesn't count. McCabe took a pick off the ear, Dewar and Hakanpaa came in hurt, Pacioretty and McMann have a history. So, Domi and Kampf? I won't even touch on Jarnkrok. I am not sure this is enough to spot a trend yet.

(c) I think we are using IR and LTIR as a tool to have a roster that is about 27 deep and over the cap. Dewar is ready to come back and Kampf gets hurt? Jarnkrok gets hernia surgery to bring him back for the playoffs. Patches and McMann out mean we get to see Alex Nylander and Grebenkin. Domi goes out and we are Minten. McCabe gives Myers a look. I think we will see this shuffle all year.

The way I see it we will continue to see injuries due to our style without the right forwards to play that style. The Tanev injury was a blow to our defense but not unexpected. We need a couple of guys built to play Berubes style or we enter the playoffs limping Imho.

I don't disagree that we should worry about the style matching the personnel, but what evidence is there so far to warrant a statement that we will "continue" to see injuries pile up.

It's difficult to suggest our injuries are style related given who got injured, when they got injured and what the injuries were.

It boggles my mind they still managed to crawl under the bar when it was literally as low as it could go.

If they fail again Shanahan needs to be fired. He's already had way too much time due to a consistently low bar. He'd have been canned anywhere else by now.

He needs to be held to a higher standard.

I don't understand why ML$E is settling for mediocrity with this guy. We want a f***ing Stanley Cup. Not a pathetic playoffs appearance.

One and done was acceptable the first time it happened.

After being the worst team in the league for decades fans were happy with just making the playoffs. Ten years later and that's still all they've got. One lousy playoffs series win.

The bar was as low as it could get for Shanahan and he became the limbo king.

Imagine if they win the Atlantic and lose to Ottawa. All hell will break loose. That would be a very leafy thing to do

Marner will for sure be gone as will numerous players and personnel

Genuinely lost at why you felt the need to bump this thread, the team is 1st in the division at game 75. This group has never done this.

They've been playing playoff type hockey all year with a complete commitment from everyone including the core 4, to playing a physical, gritty 2 way game. Marner of all people is finishing checks, getting into scrums, starting scrums and forechecking.

We're like 2 weeks away from the playoffs and hopefully finish top of the division to get a WC opponent in round 1.

And you felt the need to bump this thread to cry and whine about the last 9 years ?

I understand this post if it came after the playoffs where we lost in round 1 or 2, but to bump this thread with this kinda nonsense right now makes no sense at all.

We have a new GM who's doing a fantastic job, Berube has been great all year, Savard has the powerplay clicking at the right time, everyones buying into the team identity, but sure man complain about failing in past years lol.

Bumping this thread to bitch about them crawling “under the bar when it was literally as low as it could go” whatever that means while they are currently 1st in their division is about as transparent as one could possibly be that they are looking for something to be mad about.

The current in postseason streak really does touch on the complexity of Shanny's legacy with the team.

Prior to him joining the team had few talents, and spent a decade in the wilderness. Now we've almost had a decade straight of postseason entry yet no deep runs.

As I know he hasn't extended his current contract which is set to expire this year. Seems like the final say on his legacy may be determined by how deep they go this year.

It's very easy for someone who enjoys "trolling" to sign up here with a "Leafs" name and add an avatar, and go on to say insane stuff like the guy that bumped this thread..............

And it is all over this forum, for real.

Sure, we're going out in the first round to whoever we face...........

Until we don't.

Lets see what happens? We're first in the Atlantic...........Boston is goosed.

I would love to face Ottawa and if they beat us good for them.

Not sure heads need to roll, I like what's transpired this season, but holy hell let's get our playoffs going!!!!!!!!!!! Woooooooooo!

AKA, can't easily see my past posts to find out what I'm up to.

Interesting.

Never seen that before.

I hope I haven't done anything wrong, just sharing with my fellow Leafs fans on here that maybe this poster is up to no good?

I didn't set my profile that way and didn't even know it was an option.

i want people to read my posts actually... what would be the point of writing these stupid comments every day otherwise. If you can advise how to open my profile up again I would be more than happy to do so. This site is also heavily moderated and I can assure you from experience anything "no good" I am up to has been deleted and I've been warned.

As to why I bumped this thread it's almost the playoffs again and given this team's history it's appropriate to begin the discussion now instead of waiting for the inevitable to happen once again.

While I'm flattered you enjoy my comments enough to read through my history I am curious as to what "no good" you think I could possibly be up to?

I'm just a fan like you who enjoys posting his thoughts on the team every day.
