That's interesting.
I have wondered if style of play could be leading to increased injuries. It's an interesting theory. I have a few thoughts on it.
(a) If playoff style hockey is getting us hurt, then we were never going to win. I don't believe you can just turn it on in April if you have never done it before. So, better get the guys used to it or bring in guys that are. Not playing this way is not a long term success strategy based on what we have seen.
(b) Are we seeing increased injuries due to style of play though? Matthews has been out, apparently from an injury that first flared up in training camp. It would be hard to pin that on style of play. After that I see McMann, Domi, Pacioretty, Kampf, McCabe, Dewar, Hakanpaa, and Stolarz as having missed/going to miss a material amount of games due to injury. Stolarz is a goalie (with an injury history) so that doesn't count. McCabe took a pick off the ear, Dewar and Hakanpaa came in hurt, Pacioretty and McMann have a history. So, Domi and Kampf? I won't even touch on Jarnkrok. I am not sure this is enough to spot a trend yet.
(c) I think we are using IR and LTIR as a tool to have a roster that is about 27 deep and over the cap. Dewar is ready to come back and Kampf gets hurt? Jarnkrok gets hernia surgery to bring him back for the playoffs. Patches and McMann out mean we get to see Alex Nylander and Grebenkin. Domi goes out and we are Minten. McCabe gives Myers a look. I think we will see this shuffle all year.
