Maybe he needs some time in an nhl rink to adjust, all the things people are bringing up are all the same silly stuff said about Buchnevich that was corrected with some time in the Nhl and physical training. Man, i realize people are butt hurt he left but the overreactions to a couple preseason games are pretty funny.
He's getting his chance now and boy is he showing how soft he is. Sadly this is not an overaction but an observation.

Regarding Sammy Blais……

If you are insistent on keeping the kid line together and I can understand why you would want to, Sammy the bull should be on the top line. He’s a skilled player he’s a pain to play against and he’s going to get back in game shape soon enough here. There’s not a better option. The worry for me is his playing style. There’s no way he stays healthy for the majority of this season or any really

If Tom Wilson can stay healthy so can Sammy.

Lets just hope he finds his offense mid career the way Tom did. I think that's what NYR are envisioning when they play Blais with the skill guys, is that same kind of dynamic from him.

it's the only way the kids get to stay together and get more ice time to boot. sorta hope it gets a look at some point
Agree. I don't think Vesey played poorly with Zib and Kreider but nothing stood out other than that goal in the first minute where they cycled the puck. Vesey is there to facilitate. Kravtsov isn't ready by all appearances, but I do think that Trocheck and Panarin have a flicker of chemistry going. Trocheck will open up some room for Panarin. But Panarin-Zib-Kreider has proven to work before. And Gallant should take a page from Keefe on going with the nuclear option in certain situations or stretches during the game like with Matthews-Marner-Nylander.

Hajek is basically the defensive analog of Gauthier. There is a solid foundation of talent but it's just not coming together. And it doesn't seem like it ever will.

I pull for him every year but I'd have to agree here. It's frustrating because he seems to have it all but gets running around too much and his decision making just isnt where it needs to be.

He makes the occasional play that gets you to say, "wow, nice," when he evades a forechecker and makes a laser first pass out of the zone. The consistency is just not there. In the battle for the spot with Jones, he's not bringing anything to the table. If he was a physical D, then you could say that he has something Jones lacks. They're basically the same defenseman, relying on being shifty and mobile and springing the puck up ice, but Jones is way better at those things, and Jones' defensive reads are a lot smarter.

I get the idea of wanting to put Krav with Panarin but that line doesn't seem to mess yet. If anything I would try Krav with KZ, see if he can play the Buch type of role, be more of the playmaker with the occasional shoot first mentality. Then I would try one of Blais/Vesey/Goody with Panarin & Troch. This will hopefully give them a Fast type player who meshed well when it was Panarin & Strome. This way you also keep the kid line together. Otherwise I would move KK up with either line and try Krav on the kid line.

I don't think their first preseason game together is enough to say this line doesn't work

Personally, I'm willing to give Kravtsov more runway to see if he can figure it out, but it's hard not to feel like he really would have benefited from some time in the AHL last year and it's frustrating that he threw that opportunity away.

I think that part of the figuring out is that NHL offense is born out of small ice plays, e.g., little chip plays and quick touch passes that spring rushes. He can't be waiting for the long feed all the time. He can't be skating wide circles. Right now, he's also tentative and avoiding physicality.

Can we get a consensus on VK and the ice. People keep mentioning that he needs to get used to the smaller ice. Then someone points out that they play on NHL size rinks in the KHL.

Which is it? Can someone confirm the rink size Kravtsov played on in Russia? If it is NHL size, then there's no reason to get used to it here. I think it's more likely he needs to get used to the physicality of the NHL game. The lack of space afforded by tighter checking.

Am I wrong?

Yeah and sadly I'm not really convinced going back to the KHL will do anything for him at this point. I sense that if he goes back this time it's likely for good. I don't see him running back there given how Russia is at war and starting to draft kids his age into the military so it's likely he may get sent down to Hartford if his game warrants that.

Throughout the pre-season though I think we all can see how "soft" he plays and I suspect that will not sit well with the coaches.

Why would he go back to the KHL? He needs to stay here and play through it, even if he goes down a line.

The kids are still playing well and picking up a few points, so I'm happy.

We haven't had a single game yet with our full defense and we should be good once we do. If there's one criticism to levy at the Rangers, it's that, on defense, our starting six is fine, but there isn't much beyond that. We'll have to contend with that at some point.
We will need high draft picks to continue to address it, and for the future.

:)

Sammy the Bull is a great nickname.

He’s the forward version of Doug Murray. Just an anvil with a pair of skates.

There's a nonzero chance that either Robertson or Emberson may actually the best defenseman not in the top 6 for the Rangers. They may even today be better than older options in Hajek, Bartkowski, Tinordi, and Welinski.

This says 60m x 30m which is roughly 200 ft x 100 ft. So not NHL size.

You're not wrong. The rinks vary in size in the K, I believe.

I think every KHL team now plays on an NHL sized rink except for a few of them and its been this way for a few years.

So the excuse doesn't really hold.

KHL rink size is a mix btw NHL (26x60m), hybrid size (28x60m) and old Euro standard (30x60m). Jokerit moved to the 28x60m a couple of years ago so the above chart is out of date. Seems Traktor play on a Euro size rink, but Kravtsov is no stranger to NHL size rinks simply from playing in the KHL and the NHL/AHL.

I thought about stacking the top line also.
Everyone else does. And if you have a monster possession line behind them seem likes a no brainer to me. Plus Trocheck and goodrow together imo would be a pain to play against in a shut down role. Trocheck is cheap I really don’t care if he’s the 2c or the 3c. He’s going to play both special teams anyway
