Bedard always struggles against the Avs pace

Vlasic legitimately might be the closest thing in the league to a young Hedman
Hedman probably third best Powerplay Defenseman in League after Makar and Fox. Don't see Vlasic ever approaching that.

Nah, like, they aren't that bad. They have underpeformed their underlying stats. Games like WPG, NASH, Buffalo, Calgary. They are right there. They are like 10th worst right now in a lot of ways.

There's some serious anchoring bias going on in the nation (Eliotte) and local (here) narratives. They really havent been bad. Not even close to comparable to last year. and those opinions have been "confirmed" by standings points. They are like 50/50 in possession most nights
Doesn't that just show the underlying stats aren't a proper indicator? The Hawks aren't sub-NHL level like they were last year but they're still bad because of their offense.

6th worst in GF/G says it all to me. Still 3rd worst team in PT %. These advanced stats are a false equivalency despite them becoming more layered this past half decade. It's the NHL, players/teams are going to get shots on net consistently, I don't think the zooming in on these data points says very much and it just leads to people posting bar graphs at the end of games.

Let's not get too far ahead of ourselves. That Colorado bottom six is abysmal. lol
Not to mention that the season has just begun. Games (and some teams) in October have no resemblance to games in January and beyond. Hawks played well last night but Avs are struggling to keep the puck out of their net. Hawks still rely too much on Mrazek, they need scoring, are generally terrible at the dot, and their defensive coverage has holes. (especially when it comes to picking up the late man entering Hawks zone).
It is good to see Vlasic becoming a team leader, Kurashev pick up his game, Reichel's improvement and Donato's hustle but some of the other players are too often passengers. Guys like Hall, Bertuzzi and to a lesser extent, Dickinson who had a career season last year and is struggling to regain that form. I don't think Brodie will ever be an asset but I am encouraged by the play of Nolan Allan. Baby steps.

Avs also were in a back to back. Not uncommon to have a bad first period in those cases.

I am impressed at what little I have seen of the Hawks so far regarding the team’s effort, they are playing hard. This is not a pat on the back to Richardson, every time they show him on the screen he looks like a zombie from the walking dead. The guy is a cadaver

Sample size. You can’t rely on advanced stats to predict standings points until you have way more games played. There possession is middle of the road. I would expect the Hawks are playing at about a 78 point team right now despite their low early standing point total.

Yes the offense is the anchor.

He deserves some credit for turning the country club into a team with accountability. Don't you think? It is too dam easy to nitpick every move and make it sound like he is the main problem. Changing the culture was the first major step in this rebuild. Players know if they float, they sit.

I need more convincing. They are playing hard, I guess you can give him some credit for that. And the main problem is the lack of talent. Every coach makes questionable decisions, people are always looking for magic line changes and when the team lacks talent there are none. The guy needs to show some fire, some emotion. He is a bridge coach, the question is when is the right time to cross the bridge to the next guy. Give him this year, then we need a change.
