Rangers of later years had a tendency to shit the bed against the weakest opponents.

I hope we have seen the last of that for a long time.

Last year they didn't lose to a team with a losing record until deep into 2022. However, they came awfully close to losing to the Coyotes twice, particularly on the road. Though they looked like a tired team that game which shouldn't be a problem. But they also looked like they didn't care which could be a problem.

From watching the games so far, this team has none of that in them. They continued to press against the Ducks. Hell, when they were up 3-1 on Tampa they continued to push. The old Rangers teams would sit back and let that team dictate the terms. In Minnesota they just added on even more.

They're going to blow a lot of teams like this out of the water.

What a stupid f***ing comment. When Quinn joined the Rangers we didn’t have Panarin, Fox was with another franchise, Igor was in Russia and we hadn’t drafted Kakko or Laf.

He literally pulled this out of his ass. It’s kindergarten-level mental gymnastics lol.
Eh, I bet he did join with the idea of "years of development and then we start competing" so he's probably not lying, but it makes it sound like they had all the pieces when he was hired and they just needed to "cook" a bit first, which isn't true

I think going to the ECF and coming so close really lit a hunger under this team and its leaders and they know if they want to get back there then there's no slacking off

one thing I hated about the AV teams is after a few years of success they seemed to get lackadasical and just assume "yeah we're good it'll come around" and because AV was so hands off in the locker room it just led to an environment with no urgency.
I don't get the sense that Gallant will allow that

Honestly, if the Rangers don't show up they can lose this game, but as long as they give at least somewhat of a shit they should win it. They're at home playing against their old coach should be enough motivation.
If they lose I’m certainly not going to let it ruin my Christmas and I don’t think anyone here is going to let it ruin their break, either.

Remember the whole guessing fiasco after he said that he regretted coaching one player? David Quinn has a way with words, and it's not a good one. I think he tried to mean that when he was hired, Jeff Gorton his eminence said to him that in four years, the team should be competitive -- regardless of what we now know transpired with the hiring of Panarin and getting the #2 and #1 picks in consecutive years and all that jazz.

Gotta get back to a core defensive structure tonight.

Doesnt mean you have to abandon the offense, especially against this team - dont want to give them too much respect. Just focus on a solid all around game, almost take a road game approach.

Protect Igor, forecheck and backcheck hard, draw some penalties and the rest will take care of itself.
