One of my favorite books is on sale at Amazon for 1.99 (ebook).

Snow Crash. It's sci-fi. It's quick moving. It's from 1992 and the terms "Avatar" and "Metaverse" were coined in this book. 1992... I recently re-read it after last reading it back in '92. Pretty crazy stuff.

The picture of society painted by the author is Idiocracy-esque. There's some good, old fashioned anthropology business as well as a lot of comical pokes at society. I highly recommend. 2$ well spent.

EDIT: Today it's 8.99. Crazy.

Dear Patrick Marleau's agent,

Please get him a gig with Big Red chewing gum. It just makes sense with Big Red's schtick being how long it lasts. Show Patty putting a stick of Big Red in his mouth as a rookie, then show him politely spitting it out at his retirement ceremony.

Sincerely...

Who here is familiar with Utah, specifically the SLC area?

As an expat with an eye on returning to the states at some point, Utah seems pretty cool. But I'm unfamiliar with the culture, cost of living, etc. Would love some insights or someone to answer a set of questions if possible

As a single woman, Utah is not on my list of desirable places to live due to the culture. But it has some lovely scenery (worth visiting).

Ha, not considering it at the moment at all, but it's something I always have my eye on. Just in case there is a family emergency or whatever. Or if the situation here becomes untenable (almost 0% chance that happens).

Is that the religious culture or the social culture? Legitimate question since I know 0 about Utah peeps
My knowledge of Utah is basically that it has a lot of Mormons and they hosted the Olympics before I knew what they were.
You and I both lol. Add mountains and lakes too

huh, that's interesting. Something to consider for sure.

So where are the good, problem-free plaes to live in america that arent stupid expensive?

For anyone that cares I'm hoping to have this month's old time radio shows selection up tonight or tomorrow. I just have some last minute adjustments to make to the somewhat-random collection of shows I want to share and then it'll be uploaded to the drive folder and the necessary post will be made. I'm probably also going to put a link in my signature since I don't want to start a new thread but want to make it easier for people to find the content if this thread moves past the post.

The previous month's stuff has already been removed from the cloud folder to make way for what's coming. If anyone missed out on getting some of the content and wants another crack let me know and I'll make sure to put it in a forthcoming rotation.
