That was some good hockey boys!

I don't know if I'd like our odds against these guys in a playoff series, but tonight they were rested and made it count. There's obviously the size differential, but they didn't get pushed around or shoved out of puck battles. Aside from a ghastly turnover by Harrison at his own blue line, I don't remember seeing very many mistakes. I was on the end where they shoot in the 2nd, and the latter half of that period was as entertaining, from a quality of play perspective, as I've seen in a long time. The play evened out a bit in the third and the Blues did have their chances, but never at any point did it look like we were being completely outclassed.

Put this one up on the bulletin board - it's what they need to aspire to every night. The effort has been better lately, and if they can bring this night in and night out, they're going to win a lot of hockey games.

These is.

Great win.

These is not the times. Too much time and too tenuous of a hold. Until that "X" appears next to their name in the standings, this team will find a way to screw it up.

Hope for the best, expect the worst. Or the hockey gods will crush that optimism without a second thought

At least, that's what I need to tell myself to stop myself from being fooled by this team for a third time

I love the fact that this team is capable of playing that kind of hockey against a team as good as the Blues. Best goal differential in the league and we shut them down and outlasted them. That's playoff hockey, and that's the kind of hockey the team needs to play if it wants to keep up its push for the playoffs. Our hold on the playoffs is tenuous at best right now, close out the pre-Olympic stretch in good fashion and we might be talking.

Heard most of game on St. Louis radio feed. They were pretty solid. Praised Chuck Kaiton during the 2nd period. Heard Chuck for the 3rd. Sounds like a fantastic 60 minute effort. Proud of the team tonight.

Don't know if I'm repeating something that's already been said, but TSN alerted me to something I did not realize.

The last time we won 10 games in a month, we made the playoffs.

wow...solid win. you just never know what this team will do night to night. anyway, it's no wonder passing is off and handling the puck on the boards is so difficult with what looked like horrible ice out there.

Really no complaints tonight. St. Louis was really putting the pressure on the Canes in the first period making it difficult for the Canes to get any time and space and I thought it was going to be a long game, but that changed in the 2nd. Not sure if it was a coaching / strategy change or just the players stepping up, but from the 2nd period on, much better. 2 very weak calls against the Canes (both Semin's and Jordan's) that thankfully didn't come back to bit them.

Jordan was a beast tonight. I know he doesn't show up on the score sheet all the time, but man, he plays a great game and really is a force out there. Great defensively, hard to knock off the puck, physical, etc.. Skinner also was extremely dangerous all night. That line seems to be starting to come together.

My Checker Race Night jersey sure did get noticed tonight though. Got a lot of attention with it.

I will wear it next game, it's been good luck, look for me in 128.

That is a stupid good lineup for the Blues. Look at that 4th line. That's nuts.

Except for Stewart, he has been pretty bad. Either way, a lineup we played pretty well against.

That was a great win to put us ahead of the Blue Jackets for 3rd! I dont even want to think about where this team would be without Khudo and Sekera. Another great showing from those two.

I really like what Kirk has done with the lines. Malholtra taking over a bunch of the checking duties with Gerbe and Dwyer changes everything. Jordan with some skill players dominating on the puck is a beautiful thing to watch.

Crazy stat:

Eric Staal: 19:21
Jordan Staal: 17:28

Who would have thought after Carolina beat St. Louis in a close game, the Staals would have played less than 37 minutes combined. I'd have expected that number to be closer to 43-45.

To follow that up:

Malhotra: 16:25
Nash: 7:08

That's pretty damn effective use of all four lines.

It's incredible to think that we picked up Khudobin, Sekera, Malhotra, Gerbe and Hainsey for a combined total of $7.1M plus Jamie McBain and a 2nd.

That's some all-world dumpster diving by JR.

This is definitely a legitimate "JR should stay" argument. It seems his offseason went just fine.

From the "Hmm... well i'll be damned", file:

Nathan Gerbe has more shots on goal this season than Eric Staal, who is a notorious volume shooter. He also has more shots than Semin.

Whatever metric weighs shots on goal while on the ice vs. shots against, those guys are probably loving playing on his line. He's shooting from literally everywhere.

I don't follow college hockey, but he seems to be the top freshman in the Big 10.

He's legit, not only is he producing offensively he's an EXCELLENT defensive forward. I wasn't sure his offensive game was going to translate as he moved up in levels, but it has.

One other thing. Can't believe how big St. Louis is. The whole team looks huge. Also, as Misfit said, I ran into him at a vending stand..Nice to meet you in person.

And Fred Murtz, thanks for posting those goal videos. Nice to hear the opposing announcers on those.

Great atmosphere last night -- the passion from the albeit smaller Columbus crowd carried over into this one, with stronger attendance. If you haven't seen it they interviewed Anton on NHL Tonight (NHL Network) and he talked about the fans. Definitely felt like a playoff atmosphere in the building, one of the best and loudest crowds all year.

I have seen a lot of comments about the Ice for this one. From someone who goes to every game, the ice last night was nowhere near as bad as it has been for a lot of games this year. (I am not saying it was very good -- I'm just saying that is has usually been much worse lately). I think a lot of the style that the Blues play help create the illusion it was the ice.

I give Kirk a lot of credit for getting the lines to where they are now. Skinner is to good to be on the third with unskilled players. Jordan is to good to be just a grinding, checking line-- that line is really starting to look good.

Dwyer back made a noticeable difference and with Gerbe and Manny down the middle, that is one hard working and effective line.

While Sekera continues to get a lot of praise that he most surely deserves, I think that Faulk has been quietly overlooked (as much as an Olympian can). I tend to view them more as "pair" it seems they really work together very well, their skill sets compliment each other and as one goes so usually does the other. A Faulk blunder always seems to get noticed on here, but he does so many purely solid plays every night that are not flashy, just routinely going about his business.

The only complaint I had about Faulk's game last night was he was very ineffective in the offensive zone. He did get his shots through, which is more than we can usually say about our defensemen (especially against a great shotblocking team like the Blues), but they were simple, unscreened wrist shots for the most part.

I dunno, maybe I'm still biased by his play for Minnesota-Duluth. Watching him play there, I expected his slapshot to be one of the most dangerous tools he had in his arsenal when he made his way to the NHL (and it was obvious even then that he would be an NHLer). But in his career thus far, he's been about the defensive game and not the offensive one. Not that there's anything wrong with that. And it's likely got a lot to do with the make-up of the team the past couple years, sort of forcing him to play that defensive-minded game since no one else on the team would.

But I'm with you in terms of viewing them as a pair. Sekera tends to be more flashy in the offensive zone, but Faulk's been much more solid defensively. Sekera's gotten lucky a couple times where a mental mistake in the defensive zone didn't end up in the back of the net.
