Lots of promising signs to take from this game. Game 1 has as much value as Game 82, but at the end of the day, it's a miniscule part of the season either way.
 
Expected goals has to be the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard of.

So score should have been 7-5?

How often does that score happen as opposed to 3-2 4-2 look at goals per game average in the league the last 10 years. It’s within a few pts and always around 5. This is 12 goals? Just please don’t make me read posts like that again.

Think they played a very good game, just some breakdown in coverage was enough for the AVs to capitalize. They needed to be better in their own zone pretty much.

PP looks really good, It was fun to watch and feels like the PP is now a major threat which had been an issue.

Varlamov was the difference maker, that late shot from Mika thought he had the hat trick. He stole this game for the AVs who's defense gave up several prime chances for the Rangers.

Top line looked really good, Mika had a great game, imo. Also think Nash was good as well.
 
Chytil looked outmuscled and a step behind out there. He's just a kid, no worries. Passing wise, we look like world beaters. Just not enough roofies over Varlamov. Chytil will probably go home. Fast comes back and we'll see the lines juggled.
 
problem is whether you like hayes or not he is by far the second best centerman on this team right now even with DD playing well.

He's not.

There's two centers on this team easily better than Hayes and possibly three.

Well, if that's going to be the case, then there's no reason why he should be in the NHL, let alone as the second-line C. AV should either play him or not; no in-between.

But the lack of a top-6 C continues to be glaring.

Ugh AV. I almost believed his bullshit about embracing young talent. 7:40 TOI for Chytil when they could've used his offence. Just send him back to the Czech Republic if you're gonna gonna do this to him. :mad::mad::mad:
 
Chytil had a very similar game to Yamamoto last night, both just seemed a step slow and a bit too indecisive. Will be interesting to see what AV does with him over the next 8 games
 
Felt like we need to shoot more still, we had grade A chances for sure, but have to keep that up. Scratching my head at how some did not go
