No need to blame the refs.

Good game between two of the best teams in the league.

Pretty much, Caps had enough chances to win the game but didnt conver, and really shouldnt have messed up like they did on either of the first and third goal.

The Vince McMahon picture is fitting. He could do a better job selling the fix than the NHL.

Does Toews ever get kicked out of the faceoff?

He's impressively skilled at taking them, but he also cheats more (and gets called on it less) than anyone else in the league. Good for him for doing it until the other team calls the officials out and makes them enforce the rules, but he definitely gets an edge.

one of the caps defenders battiling the flu and carlson out. wish we were fully healthy to see where we match up against the hawks

I'm coming in late to the GDT so I don't know if this has been addressed, but, yes having Carlson out is a huge loss for the Caps but having Rasmussen, Panik and Mashinter in for Hossa, Kruger and Weiss leaves the Hawks at not full strength too.

thats not icing, maybe if the defenseman would turn and play the puck, rather than interfere the forecheck the whole way down, they would have gotten the puck eh?

Bad officating but the better team won. After today I'm really hoping for a Hawks/Caps SCF. That's going to be a good one.

That's pretty much every player ever who's good at faceoffs.

Holtby wasn't really all that impressive today

That Vezina is slipping away

What was he supposed to do on any of the three goals? Kane wide open in front of the net, puck kicks out to an open player in front of the net and Toews on a perfect pass on the PP.

Of course that second goal was a missed icing.

Backstrom was a part of both goals though.

My point is that Kuznetsov is the Caps' leading scorer despite playing less than Backstrom. Backstrom gets 5 PP minutes, Kuznetsov 1:30.
And my other point is that unless someone makes a key effort to score a goal, Backstroms's passes don't create goals. He doesn't try to shoot and his opponents know it.

Haha, why is there so much anti-Hawks in this thread?

That was a good hard fought game. Pretty evenly matched, the Hawks just ended up playing a bit better than the Caps.

I didn't think either team played at their best though.

he cheats more and gets called less than anyone else in the league? that sounds well substantiated

Great 1st period but the rules changed after that.

It's nice that refs try to keep the pace up by not calling icings (happened to both sides, they missed 4 in a row once) but that directly impacted to the outcome of this game. I prefer watching good 5-on-5 hockey aswell rather than terrible penalty calls which then lead to phantom make-up calls.
