Dallas looks worse than they actually are because they play in (by far) the toughest division in hockey.

They have a -1 GD in a division that's a cumulative +117 (including the 3 best teams in the league). The next best division is the Metro at +11.

Their record within the division is 5-10-6. Against everyone else they are 22-12-2.

They are not a "scrub" team.

They are not a scrub team but they also aren't that 22-12-2 team, because out of "everyone else" you have the Eastern Conference and the Oilers and Coyotes amidst a few good Pacific teams.

They are a team that relies on speed and skill up front, so they can burn you and be dangerous, but lack the defense to be a real threat.

You don't need to pick apart split stats because their record basically sums up what they are at a pretty fair rate: A decent team that will contend for the playoffs. Not much more.
