Wait, wut.
I get that he has character/personality issues But not trading Z for Eichel is absurd. Jack just put up 64 points in 67 games, almost a ppg on the worst team in the entire league. Imagine what he would do with a winger such as Panarin..

Not now, probably not ever. If I hear about the whole "Imagine what so and so could do with so and so" again....

I find it quite depressing how easily those around here want to already break up our fist legitimate top pairing in the history of this franchise.

We were second in the Nhl in goals against last year. Torts went gung ho with the rover position to create offense , and we fell to 10th this season . Jones has become noticeably better sine then . Much of our lapses , are lack of structure, and giving up odd man rushes because of the system .The young guys are only going to get better .

I'll let you and some of the other people carry on with this lunacy. I'll let you enjoy our riches.

Savard isn't going to get any better and we have no idea from year to year if Murray is going to play more than 40 games. You've listed a player that hasn't done anything yet. I guess the 4 assists in 11 games was enough for you.

Have fun.

We resign Cole, and Savard is your 3rd pair ,
And Kukan was an all star at ahl level, and did have 4 assist in 11 games , and appears to be a Nutivaara clone . Having that as your sixth defenseman , with Carlsson also there , is not really risky.

So just to clarify, people wouldn't trade Z for Matthews or Eichel?
Only the insane wouldn’t . I would absolutely take Eichel or Matthews . Look at what’s won the cup in the newer Nhl. Teams that have elite offensive players , Chicago , Pittsburgh , Kings . Sure we can have 2 elite offensive defenseman in Jones and Werenski, and solid but not great forwards , and you’ll get what Washington did to us . Instead of sagging down low , they will play defense up high , in the defencemans face , taking away their time and space , and you will get the same results as the Washington series . People miss that aside from the goalie change , Trotz totally changed the way that they defended us in the series mid way thru game 2 .

Cole if re-signed needs to be paired with fast puck moving D. I get that their beards are fun and all, but they are too slow together.

Eichel, no. Honestly I would have a real hard time justifying Matthews.:huh:

The real question with this team is can Wennberg be our second line center (I think he can) and is he good enough to keep this team going if PLD is injured. Depends on severity of PLD's injury and what the C depth looks like behind him. At this point I don't see it for more than a game or two

See answers above. Don't understand your Eichel/Matthews concerns but to each his own.

My concerns aren't with those players, it's with what our defense will be without Werenski. We aren't in the position that Nashville was in when they moved Jones. On a side note, I don't think Eichel is enough value for Werenski either.

I think someone like Nutti or Murray would be able to step up and play with Jones. It's not like Werenski is eating PK or late game minutes. Torts and Shaw still have to watch the minutes they feed Werenski so that he's effective offensively and on the PP. Its not that they don't trust him they just have better options. That could and probably will change over the next season or two, but it's worth noting that it's still happening. Obviously Murray or Nutti are gonna put up 15+ goals or flirt with 50 pts every season, but it would be a lot easier to allow them to move up a spot and then fill a hole on the 2nd or 3rd pairing.

And then bringing in someone like Draisitl or Eichel or whoever of that caliber then forces Dubois and Wennberg into their proper slots in the lineup. Not only that, it breeds competition for those spots, especially if someone like Stenlund can come in and at least make a run for a 3rd or 4th line spot.

I don't think if I'm Jarmo I'm actively shopping Werenski, but I'm not just gonna automatically dismiss offers for him unless they're way off base. Jones and Panarin are really the only ones I shutdown automatically.

Y'know, if it weren't for the fact that I had similar moments of skepticism with Seth Jones when he was playing in Nashville as a youngster, I suppose I might've been right there with folks on this maybe-we-should-trade-Werenski thing.

Don't. Trade. Him. For the love of G-d Almighty, don't trade him.

This all tends to fall under the "We overvalue players we don't have and undervalue ours based on what we perceive as our greatest need ATM" category. Sometimes it works in reverse when we're trying to poach players.

I wish you all well.

You know it's not zero. If you don't that, that is an issue on your part.

It's all a moot point anyway, since Buffalo isn't go to deal Eichel. He's also going to start a $10 million per season 8 year deal which may turn out to be pricey.

Werenski without injuries slowing him down is a very, very good player. Combined with Jones, as you pointed out, gives the CBJ a very strong first pairing. I'd be very inclined to stand pat with these two, as you are.

I love Zach.

I would drive him to Buffalo to get Eichel or Toronto for Matthews, Straight, wouldn't stop to pee.

Frankly, I think a Marner-Werenski type deal makes sense for both teams.

Will he? We'll have to see. Thus far is goal production isn't really at the 10 million mark yet. To put this in perspective there are still only 3 players with a 10 million+ cap hit. He is also a RFA.

I was going to like this post... until the Marner-Werenski swap was mentioned.. I'll pass.
