“We got a lot of respect in that (handshake) line from that team" - Sheldon Keefe....Thoughts on the handshake line.

Good News : Leafs have won 15 playoff games with this core, just one short of what is needed to win the Stanley Cup.

Bad News : The 15 wins is split over 6 years.
They actually have won 16 games with this core!!!

2017 = 2 wins against Washington
2018 = 3 wins against Boston
2019 = 3 wins against Boston
2020 = 2 wins against Columbus
2021 = 3 wins against Montreal
2022 = 3 wins against Tampa Bay

16 wins!!!

Start planning the parade!!!

My God Keefe. Like, that's nice and all Tampa recognizes the team is a really good one.

But just like throwing stats around like expected wins and whatever other mumbo jumbo stats are thrown out there to make a team look good, no one gives a shit. Respect is not the same as results, which all that matters in the end.

Babcock's reaction...

About time they got some respect. That game 1 performance was historic.

An odd one, but people need to stop doing full-blown autopsies trying to parse the words of coaches just trying to pump their team's tires.

There's no "analysis" or "autopsy" to be made. It's a full-blown loser quote. And watching the video in the context of it... loser coach.

He should just have left it at "we both agreed it was a good series". Which is true, no need to gloat about being respected in the handshake line lol...

I can't believe that the players will rally behind him next year. I know they'll say it for the camera, but behind closed doors? Come on

Think people are making too big a deal of this. Not like he was treating it as some sort of victory, he was asked about the handshake line and gave his thoughts.
Exactly. The Internet is just full of mooks who are overreacting to harmless statement. Keefe is aware of how bad the loss was, his comments don’t change that

Seems pretty harmless, obviously a little silly and I think he even realized it as he was talking. I can't even imagine the feeling of disappointment after playing 82 games and 7 playoff games and coming up short, when expectations were so high. I probably wouldn't be at my most eloquent, either.

That's an observation you keep to yourself. Cooper was throwing jabs at the Leafs all series long in his pressers

He's trying to highlight how much better this loss was than the losses vs Columbus and Montreal. It's more about highlighting how much a great team like Tampa respects how Toronto played, than to suggest that Columbus or Montreal players were disrespectful. So it's not all bad, guys!

I'd say maybe he's a little worried for his job, or that he's worried that other big changes will come. It's grasping at straws a little
