It was abundantly clear when he was acquired in that deal, that he was brought in specifically to address a perceived "toughness" deficiency and fill a role on this blueline. And that he would be drawing in as the #3LHD as long as he was healthy.

I’m guy. He’s been far below his norm but he’s been average at ES. Our historically bad PK and soft D that allows cross ice passes or backdoors around the net has left him out to rot

the games he's gotten criticized the most for had some spectacularly bad defending. like 4 of the goals in the jersey game were basically uncontested by any player on the ice
