That 1st round pick is toast . Were the cream of the crop of the league its bergy and dk final runs( hope they comeback next year) donny has no choice but to go for it.
But it’s not though. The hole on the roster is #4 rw to replace Craig Smith. Greer as the extra forward. Sweeney shouldn’t have to give up his first round pick for that type of player. Unless the move is much bigger I don’t see the first rounder moved.

I disagree on the first round pick. Could they move it in the right deal? Sure. If they're looking to add a 4RW though, that won't cost a first.

In a perfect world they acquire a 4RW and find a way to move out Smith & Reilly. Fill a need and free up cap space so that way we don't get a crushed by carry over bonuses.

I agree the first round pick is gone. Normally I don't think they would move it with the current lineup. However, I think we are going to get a middle 6 wing / a top 4 worthy D. These pieces wouldn't normally cost a 1 but, I think we add a 1 to maximize our financial position coming out of the trade. I think eating up as much of the overage as possible may have more value then the 1st round pick, given that it may allow us to completely forego the rebuild.

This approach allows you to resign;
Pasta
Swayman and
Zacha

It hopefully allows you to space to entice Bergy/Krejci for one more run.

This extends the one year last hurrah into a two year run and again you hand the keys over to the next generation with no rebuild.

I think this was a guy that was mentioned last year and I wasn't really on board because I didn't think he filled a need at the time. This season he feels like a guy that would fit a need for us:

Christian Fischer - 25yr old pending RFA & 1.12m cap hit. Former 2nd round pick having his best producing season since his rookie year. Good size at 6'2/215lb and a right shoot RW. He's got 55 hits and 19 blocks on the season. For comparison Foligno has 74 hits and 20 blocks on the season, and both around the same production. Nice thing with Fischer is he could be a guy that plays on the 4th line but moves up to the 3rd line if needed.
