‘18-19 State of the Ducks Part II - Failed

If I'm in the GM chair I've accepted I need the highest pick i can get

My next order of business is asset collecting and cutting money

We know this, if Bob does extend Silf he has to move out someone due to tagging problems.

Things suck now but it's better to bottom out and have an honest look at the team instead of being mediocre and finding excuses

Yep, would hate to see them turn into the Florida Panthers, Carolina Hurricanes, Minnesota Wild.

If he's committed to rebuilding (tanking) he should tell his customers. If you're up front to them about it, customers can be understanding. They get mad when they feel lied to.

Can't argue with your logic, but you know management has never felt the need to be up front with the fans on any kind of news regarding the team. They really treat fans as if the fans know nothing. Like it was 1993 still.

Only 26 more games to go this season, 15 at home and 11 on the road. I will be interested to see if the Ducks get 9 or more points out of those 26 games, or if they just go for broke and lose all 26. I also will be interested to see what happens to real home attendance versus paid attendance. There are some games where there will be interest from visiting fans, such as the Kings games. But excluding those, if they draw more than 10,000 actual customers a game I will be surprised. These results are horrible, and I wonder how many season ticket holders they are going to lose for next year. Until they show me that they can at least be competitive I am not going to any more games.

Id be okay if the team came out and said "look we took a wrong turn on building the team, were going to look to do a quick rebuild.. be patient.... also please stop emailing us about firing RC"

Corey Perry: $8,625,000 through 2021
Ryan Getzlaf: $8,250,000 through 2021
Ryan Kesler: $6,875,000 through 2022
Cam Fowler: $6,500,000 through 2025
Adam Henrique: $5,825,000 through 2024

This team won't even be in a position to start an actual rebuild for a few years. I like Henrique, but what has he done to earn $6M per year exactly? I'm fine with Getzlaf, but the rest of those contracts stick out like a sore thumb. BM really dropped the ball here, and the team is going to suffer for it now.

I've seen people say that Kesler can go on LTIR to free up some space, but that's not up to the higher-ups. Kesler may be far from his former self, but he can still play hockey, so you can't put him on the injured list. It's not like a Pronger situation where the player's health is preventing him from playing. If he's capable of playing hockey, you can't put him on LTIR. They can buy him out, but I really can't see that happening.

All I know is that Murray is serious about intending to re-sign Silfverberg, I'm officially on board with boycotting the team until the owners step in and replace him. He won GM of the year because he has good scouts. His player signings have been absolutely dreadful and have screwed the team over for the next few years. Maybe more if he does give Silf a big contract. This is where it would be nice to have owners that understand hockey. They never should have extended BM. Add him to the list of crap we're stuck with for the next few years.

A high draft pick will be nice, but the team can't improve until we get the bad contract situation under control.

right? do something like the Rangers brass did. they admitted they were going to rebuild to the fans.

Fowler has managed to get 18 penalty minutes in much fewer games than Lindholm who has 20 penalty minutes, how is that even possible given he doesn't throw hits around ?

The big contracts to Getz, Kesler, Perry don't really affect an "actual rebuild." Only any attempt to quickly reload.

Fowler and Henrique aren't big enough to hurt that much either through any rebuilding player's ELC and potentially 2nd contracts (of lower tier guys).

Can’t. League would be all over the Ducks or any other team that admitted they are intentionally losing games.

They have to keep playing their team, (including their AS goalie), saying the right things, and keep a coach that took them to the WCF a couple years ago. It is kind of a perfect scenario to tank.

Marian Hossa says hi.

Bob should stop in Toronto on his way home from Europe and learn the building blocks of creating his own Kesler Island.

Think he would be better off stopping in Brooklyn, I’m not sure if Dubas has the balls that Lou had in LTIRing all the dead weight in Toronto.

call me crazy, but I don't see Kesler as the kind of guy to "admit he can no longer play hockey" just for the good of the team.

No chance. His ego will tell him he is still a great 2 way player. That combined with His “warrior” mentality are killing the Ducks.

So realistically 2022 is the first year we can be relevant. Start building for that year.

Yeah, you're right. Lou is the architect of that little piece of real estate. And a fine job of creating it he did.

Holmgren was a master back in the day too. Or was that when Clarke was still GM? All the big, slow clutch and grab style dmen the Flyers signed to big deals pre lockout seemingly disappeared overnight.

What would the league do? There's no rule against it. Teams say this all the time, in all sports. "This is a rebuilding year." "We would like to see what the young guys have."

Can't he just take notes from Dean Lombardi about what happened to Mike Richards? And it should be much easier for Kesler considering he lives in Detroit in the offseason.

There was also no rule about signing a 27 year old to a 17 year contract, didn't stop the league from doing something about it.

Bob's said they're doing that, he just hasn't used that exact term, I don't think. He goes much further than that and the league is probably taking notice, especially if he's on the same page as the one you seem to be on.

You can't make something up with that, Kesler would have to screw up at some kind of high level. I'd also say I'd rather not have Bob get into the voiding contracts for ticky tack reasons but I think they did that to Despres so it might be too late now.
