Z is a lifer. 100% guaranteed he retires as a Wing.

Pav wanted to leave for a while, Z hasn't suggested anything of that sort
Zetterberg is 36 and will be 40 in his last year of the contract. Most of the money is front loaded but will hold a average cap hit of $6.083M so the contract is similar to that of Weber's. Personally, I'm not afraid of these contracts with players like Zetterberg and Weber. 2 things will happen in the last 2 years of the deal. 1) The player continues to be effective or 2) retires due to not being effective and no incentive playing for $1M a year actual salary.
What happens to a teams Cap Hit when a player retires early? The formula of Cap Hit = The sum of the difference between Cap Hit and Actual Salary divided by the amount of years the Player retires early and the Cap Hit goes to the team that benefited from the difference. In Zetterberg's case so far... there is a total of $10.5M Cap Hit that will be divided into the amount of years IF the player retires early. All that goes to Detroit no matter what team he plays for from this point moving forward.
Believe it or not, Nashville will get a $24.5M Cap hit if Weber retires early. If he retires one year early, it's a $24.5M Cap hit. If he retires 2 years early, it's $12.25M cap hit for 2 years. Etc...
Wings won't trade Zetterberg. Trade doesn't make much sense for Montreal either. They should look to trade McCarron+ for Hanzal
