Yzerman won a Selke over Fedorov in this time frame. That shouldn't happen if Fedorov is playing at anywhere near the mythical level people usually ascribe to him in their minds. Also, Zetterberg's 2008 season + playoffs > any of Yzerman and Fedorov's runs in this time frame, then you pair him with a guy who won the Selke and was 4th in scoring two years in a row.

Any era of Fedorov while he was a Detroit Red Wing automatically is superior. Dude is arguably one of the top 10 F's to ever play the game, if you discount his playing time post-Detroit. Putting that with Yzerman is just vastly superior. I love Zetterberg and Datsyuk, but I would think even they would say it's not even a close argument.

ETA: Also...3 Cups during that "Dead Puck Era" to Zetterberg/Datsyuk's 1 during their era.

For believing he’s better than post 1997 Fedorov and Yzerman? Not even close. Seems you have no real idea how good he actually was. Infact Datsyuk is the only one here who had a truly elite season in his 30s. 6th in points per game at age 36 (63gp), better advanced stats than Bergeron, Lidstrom retired, Helm and Abdelkader regular linemates 5vs5. Fedorov only managed something similar to this at his absolute peak, not playing on one ankle and with a host of elite players on the ice with him 24/7.

In the timeframe you’re giving here I am inclined to take Datsyuk and Zetterberg. Zetterberg in his prime is better than post 1997 Yzerman and Datsyuk in his prime is better than post 1997 Fedorov for the most part, although Fedorov still had a few great playoff runs after this point I believe.

I tend to lean Zetts/Dats in the actual time frame being asked here but it's a bit of a pickem maybe.

that being said the timeframes is a leading question for the last year Federov wasn't even a Red Wing and the first year for Fedorov was his hold out year.

I’m shocked at the results here. Did people not read the question properly that it’s only post 1997 for Fedorov and Yzerman? This leads me to believe Datsyuk and Zetterberg are much more underrated than I had previously thought.

Yzerman and Fedorov are the better players, Datsyuk and Zetterberg had more success and Dats is my favorite hockey player of all teams to ever watch so voting against him is always hard but gotta vote the better players.

Voted for the DPE guys, I do think Fedorov was still in his prime in 1997 he just had less minutes that year and spent a lot of time on D, including in the playoffs, which he absolutely dominated.

The dpe wings played in a lower scoring era. They also rolled 4 lines pretty evenly in the late 90s.

That 98 team was 2nd in gf but the highest scorer had 69 points.

Very few times did Detroit have a top 20 scorer in that span when goal scoring was really low. They were deep top to bottom and beat teams that way.

Yea, I should have clarified that the difference isn’t meaningful, but I think it’s fair to note that both sets of players often played fewer offensive minutes than the usual stars of the day (Jagr, Selanne, Kariya, etc and Crosby, Ovechkin, Malkin, etc).
