Confirmed with Link: Zadina signs 3 year extension (1.825 AAV)

At this point, it seems like people want him to fail just to fulfill their own personal egos.
HFBoards prize for being right about a bust: Nothing
HFBoards penalty for being wrong about a prospect: Nothing

Real life prize for being right about a bust: Nothing
Real life prize about being wrong about a prospect: Get to watch exciting hockey

Nobody is rooting for anyone to fail. Predicting and hoping are 2 different things.

I feel like people haven't even seen all the chances he has created. Like you said, at some point it has to result in production or it doesn't mean much. But at this point, I would be scared to trade him away. As long as I'm scared to trade him I'm going to root for him.

Last season I was getting to the point of being over Zadina but remained highly optimistic about Rasmussens progress and the large value a player his size can have to our team. Right now, Zadina is certainly showing better than I have seen up to this point of his career in the NHL. We are in no need to give up on him now. If we are fully healthy including Fabbri, then we obviously will likely have to make some decisions with him. That may not even happen, so until then, let's just see what he does. No need to hate on him.

He could easily have a few assists if his teammates converted. Some of the passes he made provided just as good if not better scoring opportunities than some of the goals we actually converted on. Maybe things start to go his way, maybe not. Either way there are enough signs of hope that it would be wise to atleast see through another partial season just to make sure we don't make a mistake moving him.
I agree 100%

I think you underestimate the joy of schadenfreude for some people.
It's not like we're talking about Marchand.....

Anyone who wants a Wing to fail isn't a true fan. If Oesterle got on the ice and looked like Hedman, I'd do a 180 and become his biggest fan, but the chances of that happening are about the same as me getting an NHL contract.

I don't root for Oesterle to fail. I just know he will.

Right? He's only slightly better than Cholo, a lot of the same issues.

Zadina is in the same boat unless he miraculously improves his reflexes and reaction time along with his shot timing. He can't hit anything that comes across the ice with his slapper, he might want to take snap shot lessons from Perron. I've noticed Perron beats the goalie with placement, not velocity. Zadina needs to realize he's not Ovechkin.

It's impressive that thru 7 games, he has no points, but is only -3. I really think he needs a fresh start somewhere else.

He's focusing so much on all the little details off the puck that he's completely ignored the big details on the puck.

Zadina and Veleno have some ridiculously good ES GA/60 numbers so far this season. 1.3 for Zadina and 0.0 for Veleno. Top two for anyone that's played more than 2 games.

For reference the Tall Guys lead all regulars with
5.1 GA/60 for Ras,
4.5 GA/60 for Soda and
4.4 GA/60 for Sunny.

There is no basically or trying involved. They succeeded.
Based on his linemates this season, that's not true. A majority of his ES TOI this season is with some combo of Copp, Raymond, and Perron. Yes, that's mostly due to injuries, but it seems clear they are still trying to milk some more offense out of him. However, that goal has obviously been an utter failure to this point, and he's effectively trending into what you guys have described, yes.

Feels like we might be close to an end product here. A bottom-6 grinder type who gets token PP2 time and puts up ~20 ES points a season, plus whatever PP production he can muster. Now, is that an end product the Wings are happy with? Is that a role that Zadina is happy with? Probably not to at least one of those questions.

Still hoping he blossoms into more, but my expectation is probably the same as just about every single poster here at this point.

I think there is still a possibility that he can get sports psychologisted into a 20/20 middle 6 guy. Give him the Dan Cleary Playbook. If he can turn into a Cleary after being a top 10 bust without having to switch teams 4 times, that's probably best for all involved.

My main thought here is, why isn't Zadina already living in Cleary's house at this point? We have a guy on staff that was a top 10 pick washout that rediscovered himself.

Here's to hoping. The psychology part can certainly be worked on, seems like he does have an issue on that front. My larger concern though is with his IQ and ability to play an effective offensive role at NHL speed. I think the game just happens too fast for him, too fast for him to do what he's done at lower levels. That's one of the hardest parts of scouting 16/17/18 year olds. You can watch them dominate their peers, but projecting them to the NHL level and making a determination on whether they can do the same things at NHL speed is nearly a crapshoot.

I want to believe but I just don't see it. Zadina is probably more skilled than Cleary, but Cleary was so much tougher on the puck and tougher in general.

With Zadina it's not like I've seen flickers of brilliance and think "if only he could have the confidence to do that more."

they’re basically trying to turn him into a 4th line grinder
"They're" trying to turn him into a player who can add value to an NHL team.

He's essentially failed all assignments, 1st line, 2nd line, 3rd line and 4th line. And, it's always somebody else's fault.

If not for the plethora of injuries/suspensions, he wouldn't even be in the lineup.

Don't look at Red Wing Cleary. Look at Blackhawk/Oiler Cleary.

That is where Zadina is now.

I understand, but I don't think they play the same kind of game.

Cleary turned his game around through work ethic and becoming a two-way player. Even in Edmonton Cleary put up 17 goals and 35 points in his first full season with the team. That's not wildly different production than what he did with the Wings.

But for the Wings he was a great utility forward who played physical AND was around a 20 20 guy. Cleary always had the physical side of his game
