Does anyone else see the similarities between these two players?

Height, weight, skating stride, playing style, compete level, facial characteristics....

I can't think of two other Oilers who could so seamlessly travel through time and take each other's place without anyone noticing right away. All Hyman needs is a "crashing the net with one leg in the air" moment to completely mirror Anderson's career here. And maybe a few Cups...

It's hard for me to not see a lot of #9 when I see #18 play.

An apt comparison though I think Glenn was a better goal scorer. Nothing against Hyms but GA is HOF.

On that ridiculously stacked Oilers team, Anderson was my favourite player.

When the Oilers needed a goal, the opposition had to physically stop him because he was just going to net like a squadron of army hornets. Gretzky's patience and vision in those moments were lost on me 😂

Hyman and Smyth were more like alike. Both had a nose for the net
Yeah this is a much better comparison. Anderson was known more for his phenomenal skating and attacking the net at full speed. Hyman (like Smyth) known more for being a physical presence near the crease. Anderson was also a dirty chippy player. I haven’t seen that from Hyman.

I agree with others, he’s the modern Ryan Smyth. I don’t think he’s more talented either as someone stated, he’s just got the ideal situation for his skill set to be used. Smyth never had that.

Certainly not height and weight. Hyman is much bigger. In fact he is basically the same size as Messier.

As others have suggested Anderson was more of a net crasher with speed while Hyman tends to park himself in front and battle. Anderson was a better passer by a fair bit, actually quite underrated in that regard.

They also have very different personalities. Anderson was eccentric, more of a free spirit. While he seemed like a very bright guy he could sound like a bit of a space cowboy. Hyman is about as straight an arrow as you might find and is mature and extremely articulate.
