I think that is a mistake. 70+ games in AHL would be a lot more productive for him.
His decision is about more than hockey

Agree with what Edge is saying. No reason for him to turn pro right now. Rangers Blueline is still a work in progress and they’ll be adding more prospects to the big club in that position soon anyway. Marinate for him, we got time.
Bring back NHL2NightYou will be hearing a lot of it starting next year.

I can't tell if this is a serious question.Do we really want a player in our organization who doesn't live and breathe hockey?

I would say more Hayek than smith. Just think Quinn would prefer to sit Hajek over smithCould mean no more Smith/Hayek soon
its not from NYR; its from the player's agent, now his ELC expires in '23I don’t really see what the rush is for this year.
Still don’t see what the rush was to burn an entry level year off his contract from the Rangers perspective. Also thought he wanted to go back for his junior year.its not from NYR; its from the player's agent, now his ELC expires in '23
...thought he wanted to go back for his junior year.
those quotes were from before Hockey East tournament;
weeks later, when they made Frozen Four,
it seemed more likely that IF they won it all, he'd reconsider
it probably don't matter much,That makes no sense. So he'll play like 5-10 games after quarantine and we burn a year on the ELC? What's the point?

To entice Jones to sign. This way he gets his signing bonus paid twice in 3 months. Great way to convince a kid to sign
Do you think the organization had legitimate worry/concern about him not signing and doing all 4 NCAA years and becoming a FA?
Seems like an odd move being is that the player was just saying he didn't think he was ready to play pro hockey due to a reason that had nothing to do with his team winning or not winning the recent championship...
What's likely to happen next season? If Lundkvist earns a roster spot (as anticipated), I can't imagine we would see Jones on his left side... Does that mean (barring injuries) Jones is likely to spend most of next season in the AHL? And if so, do we essentially lose 2 years on his ELC where he'll see minimal NHL playing time?
