Because it's relevant, this is more of a Werenski general discussion thread than it is just his hunt for Norris. He's playing against the best of the best in the NHL, it's relevant to discuss how he's playing.
It's not relevant at all to the Hart.

If Hughes was playing you better believe his thread would be getting blown up with his performance.
And any talk about his play as the event to the Norris would be equally bad.

It just doesn't matter, I'm consistent about that.

The terms of reference for the Norris are pretty clear.

Agree with this assessment. I thought he looked a bit lost out there. I disagree with the McAvoy take though. Slavin was far and away the best D on the ice last night. He is the Eraser!
I don't think Z and McAvoy were on the same page at times. I could see Z being the type of guy who's tough to play with on the spot. He thrives as a wanderer.

As for his ice time, I see no issues giving it to the defensive guys late. Worked like a charm.

So go complain to a mod, you seem to be the only one who cares. I figured I'd let the Werenski discussion to one thread rather than gunking up the forums with another player discussion thread when one already exists.

It's a discussion board with a topic, so I pointed out that the post didn't align with the topic and it doesn't.

You can agree or disagree, that's the point of discussion right?

Because HF is famous for staying exactly on topic of the post title... This has very strong "old man yells at clouds" vibes.

Also, Werenski getting attention on this big of a stage, with national audiences, actually could help his Norris case (or hurt it, if for some reason he was a dud). Attention and talk about him snowballs into visibility and relevance with the media, and possibly votes. Especially if Makar and Hughes aren't as visible in the tourney.

So yes, it does align with the topic.

Won't have any impact on Norris votes
The only way the tournament won't have any impact on any of the awards (not just the Norris), is if the voters don't watch any of the games. I can't imagine any voter not wanting to see how players preformed both good and bad. They may even watch the tournament again before voting just to see how 2 candidates preformed, while playing in the same system, on the same teams, at the same time.

Would seem foolish not too.

Sure but if that's the case how is his playing time against Canada in his first game going to reflect?

Possibly his 3rd game as well?

The tournament really isn't going to have any impact on the regular season awards and rightly so.

If two players who are up for a NHL award for their play during the NHL season. And both players deserve the award; why wouldn't they look at a tournament that the NHL supports (pausing the season) and the two players either competing or playing together?

If a player puts up a 200 point season but is a suspect in a horrific crime; it's going to be taken into consideration.

Realistically they shouldn’t, but writers love narratives, and and I can see it having an impact if things are close. If the USA wins with Werenski leading them in points while Hughes was on the shelf and with Makar not producing, and the Jackets make the playoffs and the Canucks don’t, it’s a lot of feathers in Werenski’s cap

They shouldn't but it's human nature. And I don't think they will hold it against Hughes for not being there, because you can only assume he would've done good; based on the season he's having. Werenski had very little to gain (in regards to the Norris trophy) by entering the tournament and a lot to lose. If Zach put up 0pts and a -5 it would leave a bigger impression than what he's done. The tournament isn't going to determine the Norris (handful of games compared to 82) but expecting it to have no influences on voters is unrealistic.
