That is why Minny opted to buy him out. If they didn't he'd be on their roster at his $7.8 mill cap hit, making $1 mill. He wants to play and isn't an LTIR guy, which I think most thought he would be given his prior history of back injuries. That's not something you can bank on, cause you just don't know. The buyout gave them certainty in building out their roster as they knew what their cap hit obligations would be moving forward.His contract was front loaded. When he was bought out, there was 4 years and 10 million left on it(6 million, 2m,1m and 1m).
He gets 2/3rds(6.66 m) of that spread over 8 years. So Minnesota is paying him 833k.
The cap hit is the difference between his cap hits, and what he was paid over the term of the contract.
So Minny took the hit on him.
