Yzerman End of Season pressconference

It won't happen. Yzerman will never outbid other teams and Marner has no reason to come here other than money.

My guess is that he stays with Toronto for around 13.5 after they make a deep run this playoffs. This Toronto team looks very different than previous years and they're built to win. Hot take - I can see them winning the cup too.
TO is winning nothing.

You can call it that if you like. I'm not saying a trade is for sure happening but I didn't hear anything to indicate he is happy with Larkin's leadership.
Neither Yzerman nor Larkin should be satisfied with how this season was handled. It'll be interesting to see what if any actions - from both parties - come from all these recent words.

It's easy to see with the performance of the team, the (lack of) moves being made, and press conferences like this to see why confidence in the Yzerplan around the league/fans is waining.

I wonder if we can get Larkin's reaction. Yzerman said "you can ask him what I told him if you want..."
Sounded like a challenge to Larkin about shut up, worry about yourself and your production first and be a leader instead of moaning. Which means internal information stays internal. Can that be done? Larkin should answer they had a conversation, the content stays internal and he need to do better himself. That's it.

catching up but the question about are you on the hot seat sparked some Yzerguy anger....
I think he was honest, he doesn't give a shit what anyone other than the Ilitch family thinks and that's as it should be.

Todd's answer right after that was great. We're good enough already to make the playoffs. Doesn't matter how many guys you add if you have shitty leadership.

Then he reeled off:
-Pissed away Tampa game before 4 Nations
-Pissed away Washigton
-Had a chance to beat Montreal
-St Louis gave up a goal in the last 30 seconds

Yeah, it would obviously be better to have you as the coach and GM, given that you're so much more in tune than a long-time NHL GM and a long-time NHL coach.
You right bro. Gustafsson, bought in to help the power play, didn't do much with his whopping 9 PP points... But his defensive prowess more than made up for it. :help:

Except 3 more games than the Wings have this postseason 🥱

8 years of playoff runs and can only reliably get past the first round when they get a matchup against a team that just finished a rebuild is nothing. Call me when they finally beat Fla or TB to go to the conference finals.

Yzerman: I’m counting on our best players, our leaders to give us a morale boost, that’s why they’re here and that’s what they’re paid for.

Why would you find it so difficult to comprehend that the coach and GM would have some nice words to say about a couple of players who've been vilified by fans and the press as the main reasons why this team can't win?

You'd prefer they piled more blame onto the depth players, who really don't have much to do with the success or failure of a group when it's top top guys didn't get it done? What would be the point of that? To convince an internet basement dweller like yourself that they can see what you see?

The point of pretty much the whole news conference was to lay blame on the top guys. It seems rather pointless to pile on Lyon, Holl, and Gus. The GM and coach are professionals. The players are professionals. These guys were a big part of the locker room ... something that guys like Jake Walman, or internet numbskulls could never understand.

Ideally. Larkin seems like a baby though. That shit was so immature. As the C he should stfu and motivate the group. If he was a PPG dominator after the 4 nations he would have more leverage saying what he did. He went invisible a lot of the stretch....

But yes, more urgency.
9 years without playoffs l, but the prices… both groups need more of it, I appreciate him kicking it off. Larkin better have his best season next year.

They pissed it away because the group isn’t good enough.

I know that we were in on him, but NSH offered more money and his family wanted to go there.
There is no indications that ownership as denied anything in regards to signing Stamkos or not.
I recall hearing Yzerman asked illitch if it was ok to go 4 years for stamkos and he never heard back from illitch so he signed with Nashville

Larkin is not a good leader and to me it seems clear Yzerman and McLellan (especially McLellan, tbh) are very unhappy with the leaders in the room and that starts with Larkin.

I have a feeling he's traded at the draft. I can see something sneaky like a 1 for 1 for Pettersson.

No thanks on Pettersson. He’s worse than Larkin and paid more.

How often did we see Yzerman and Lalonde have a joint presser? I remember Yzerman answering a question last summer (maybe?) about the interactions between the GM and coach, and it seemed Yzerman was taking a more hands-off approach then, offering advice/ideas but that there was disagreement, and it's the coach's decision in the end. I kind of got the impression then that Yzerman and Lalonde didn't see entirely eye-to-eye on some basic things. I don't get that with McLellan, which is nice.

I didn't get Yzerman/McLellan crazily targeting Larkin. From the way people were talking here I expected something closer to the craziness in Vancouver earlier this season. Also, while he talked about moving guys, picks, whatever, but later in the interview he seemed to fall back to leaning on the kids.

I lean towards what @Rzombo4 prez , and others, has mentioned, that Yzerman will try to make some moves, but the moves won't necessarily be there to make. And I think all of the talk about needing the guys in the room to step up supports this likelihood. They'll try to get some help, but the guys here need to step up.

This really didn't change my idea of what the Wings are going to be looking to do this summer.

Why do feel like Yzerman and Todd tore Larkin a new asshole after his presser! Yzerman was probably like "IF YOU DONT WANT TO BE HERE GIVE ME YOUR LIST!"
He prolly should.

These guys are going to move like snails and build teams like Nashville/Minnesota without Kaprizov.

Who'd ever want to sign here after a presser like that. I think there is a problem with Yzerman/Larkin now and Coach isn't on the players side(don't blame him he did JUST get hired by Yzerman).

Go listen to Larkin's locker clean out presser from last year. Was totally happy with getting close to the playoffs, no concerns at all about Newsy. No concerns at all about the direction of the franchise despite losing 15 of 20 games.

What's changed? Newsy's gone and Larkin is being pushed by McLellan to lead.
