Yzerman End of Season pressconference

I'm not saying a trade is for sure happening, that's just where my guess leans towards.
But I do think it's funny that Yzerman's response is the opposite of what people in here were saying...lol

Now we're changing the narrative to "Larkin lit a fire under Yzerman". I do not think that's what happened. I think Yzerman and McLellan are clearly saying Larkin needs to step up and lead the room and not whine about adding guys.

I said it was overblown and I stand by it.

Professionals are allowed to challenge each other.

I don't think it makes sense to buy out Tarasenko. He has a year left, just see if he can recover some play or let him drop off the roster.

Holl is the one that needs to be bought out.

Unfortunately McLellan literally went to the media after #82 and singled out Holl as one of the bright spots of the back half.

Yeah, I have no idea how. But certainly seems like he's coming back.

Larkin has to ask out. Like it or not if those two talking right now cannot make tangible changes and make the playoffs Larkin will last longer than them.

I am glad he lit a fire under them. This is the first time he has had a pulse in one of these. Yzerman is always honest, glad somebody has kicked his ass in gear though and Larkin isn’t in trouble unless he asks out. It’s why he is the one that said it to begin with.
If they can't make tangible changes, why would you expect Larkin to want to stay?

Overall, I thought it was fine. Yzerman wasn't going to change his philosophy. I thought McLellan had a lot of good stuff to add, especially the part about mental toughness. That team is incredibly soft mentally.

What I found interesting is at times it sounded like McLellan was calling out some of their veterans for not being good leadership figures.

Why do feel like Yzerman and Todd tore Larkin a new asshole after his presser! Yzerman was probably like "IF YOU DONT WANT TO BE HERE GIVE ME YOUR LIST!"

Yeah I don't think Tuomisto is going to make it. Mentioned foot speed multiple times.

Seemed to be pretty positive on Wallinder.
Yeah... seemed like he was trying his hardest to not throw under Tuomisto under the bus, but seems like it ain't gonna happen for him.

I was a bit surprised that he seemed so positive on Wallinder. I really lost faith in him this year

The trade stuff notwithstanding, most of us simply said that it reflects very poorly on Larkin's leadership. Yzerman and McLellan both essentially said it reflects poorly on Larkin's leadership.

It's tough, I'm stealing something the winged wheel podcast guys said. But with the Tank buyout you save 3.1mil. Can you upgrade what he did with that money? The answer might be yes.

I have a crush on Todd I think
Silverfoxes will do that to you sometimes.
"World class ownership". Doesn't sound like the Illitch's are blocking him from signing free agents
Careful, don't remove the narrative some people have where they believe the ownership is actively being cheap...
You know what I do have to say that the media is asking very good questions here.
They did. Frankly Larkin's comments activated Yzerman and Todd a bit. Got to but heads a bit to make things better long term. A bit fiery press conference which is good.

The answers gives confidence about this team's future.

I guess we shouldn't try then? Don't really see your point at all?
It won't happen. Yzerman will never outbid other teams and Marner has no reason to come here other than money.

My guess is that he stays with Toronto for around 13.5 after they make a deep run this playoffs. This Toronto team looks very different than previous years and they're built to win. Hot take - I can see them winning the cup too.

He is from here and his entire family lives here. Same reason Yzerman came back from Tampa. One of them just has a longer runway of circumstances to see that through and contractual guarantees.

If Larkin wanted to move from non-competitiveness he could have just requested it. I believe the reason he spoke out was to force action.

For the crowd that wants him to opt out maybe he does. I sort of doubt it.

I am glad Yzerman and Larkin are pushing each other to be better/do more.

As I said before, I'd be disappointed if that wasn't the case.

Somebody leaked the I couldn’t get ownership approval on Stamkos story too. We look at that as a good thing because Stamkos looks cooked but that might be different on a top 5 pp. Overarching point is Chris wouldn’t approve it.

No bro, Yzerman doesn't care, Larkin is 100% in the right, Yzerman will just come out and say he would say the same thing when he was captain!!!!

Lol. He did the exact opposite of saying he would do the same thing. Called Larkin out as directly as possible for a guy as professional as he is. Yzerman translated into Jim Rutherford's vocabulary would probably have included a bunch of cursing.
Keep parroting that. Now that Yzerman's comments are the exact opposite of what the guys in here were telling us, I wonder where the goal posts will shift to next.

It's clear as day that Yzerman and McLellan are very unhappy with Larkin's leadership based on this interview.
Ever heard of confirmation bias?

Leaked it or made it up?
