Yzerman End of Season pressconference

Larkin has to ask out. Like it or not if those two talking right now cannot make tangible changes and make the playoffs Larkin will last longer than them.

I am glad he lit a fire under them. This is the first time he has had a pulse in one of these. Yzerman is always honest, glad somebody has kicked his ass in gear though and Larkin isn’t in trouble unless he asks out. It’s why he is the one that said it to begin with.
I think there's a non-zero chance he has asked out based on his comments and now Yzerman's comments.

I'm not saying a trade is for sure happening, that's just where my guess leans towards.
But I do think it's funny that Yzerman's response is the opposite of what people in here were saying...lol

Now we're changing the narrative to "Larkin lit a fire under Yzerman". I do not think that's what happened. I think Yzerman and McLellan are clearly saying Larkin needs to step up and lead the room and not whine about adding guys.
I said Larkin better be ready to have his best year next year after doing it… so change it around however you want. Yzerman was honest also something said. Now you’re missing the context, Yzerman did this in the 90s. He demanded guys be shipped, he asked for better players, he looked bewildered at failures as a Captain. He has a different role now and is clearly defensive and guess what in year 6 he should be.

  • Haha
Reactions: Run the Jewels

Why, he has more security than Yzerman if he wants to play the long game. I think the plan is to kick Yzerman into a Jimmy D role but if he feuds with his best player that he handed full NMC to, it is a destabilizing move. Who is easier to move on from at that point the guy with 6 years left or….

I think this is why you see the defensiveness. I have defended both for years, both guys have things to improve on and I am fine with both throwing down on that demand.

The same way Larkin better show up his best self, we better not enter August without a much better looking roster. They are both on the clock, as they should be over a half decade in.

"World class ownership". Doesn't sound like the Illitch's are blocking him from signing free agents

His goalie comments didn't seem to give any indication that we're gonna see Cossa next year...

Didn't even mention him until the reporter asked.

A few comment on what I heard.
  • Yzerman talked about St Louis and Montreal making no big trade deadline moves but that their best players lifted them to the playoffs.
  • Todd said when this team takes on water they struggle to get things back on track.
Those comments to me were directed at Dylan, and if this is what he heard that just before his locker clean out presser it helps explain his little pity party for himself.

Oh, Yzerman also said he talked to Dylan about his comments and that Larkin is free to share his comments if be likes. That sounds like a guy who told Larkin to stop being a t***y baby and start leading this team.

And what about the 5 minutes they spent emphasizing that when they are talking about leadership, they are not just talking about Larkin? That was just secret code for "Dylan Larkin is a little bitch"?

Larkin is not a good leader and to me it seems clear Yzerman and McLellan (especially McLellan, tbh) are very unhappy with the leaders in the room and that starts with Larkin.

I have a feeling he's traded at the draft. I can see something sneaky like a 1 for 1 for Pettersson.
McLellan deal with this with PLD in LA and he ain't f**king around with precious Dylan.

I think it can be both. It sounds like they're not happy with leadership on the team, period. They want more out of guys like Raymond and Seider, both of whom were called out by name. They didn't at any point indicate that they were happy with Larkin, all they said was "not just Larkin because he wears the C". At the same time, they actively rejected the comments he made about the deadline. Could just as easily have said "I tried to add at the deadline and I understand the frustration, but the prices were too high for what we're trying to build here. I expect our guys to compete regardless", but they didn't.

An interesting press conference all in all. It was far from a nothingburger IMO.

Yes to the crowd pushing that narrative.

I think this is an important row between the two most powerful people outside of ownership to demand we get better. I am glad it is happening.

No buyout question and he said he expected more from Tarasenko next season.

I know I know he's not gonna say it, but wouldn't be shocked to see Tank again.

I don't think it makes sense to buy out Tarasenko. He has a year left, just see if he can recover some play or let him drop off the roster.

Holl is the one that needs to be bought out.
