I can't make an actual list in order but heres my favorite movies just off the top of my head

  1. Forest Gump (yes, yes, I've heard the criticism on here)
  2. Enemy of the State
  3. Gravity
  4. Lord of the Rings (not a fan of some of the CGI in the last one but still great)
  5. Men In Black (this movie blew my mind when I was a kid)
  6. Rumble in the Bronx
  7. Yojimbo
  8. Seven Samurai
  9. Drunken Master 2
  10. Armor of God 2

The numbering doesn't mean anything

HM

Man with no name movies
Snowpiercer (especially the first hour)
Remember the Titans
And of course the great christopher Nolan batman films

Pretty much nothing under the radar. Every non mainstream movie I see I hate.

I remember back in grade 2, some kid brought Rumble in the Bronx to class and told the teacher it was classroom friendly. It lasted about 5 minutes before the teacher shut it off.

Best western of all time IMO. That or Unforgiven.
Very underrated at least, doesn't get as recognized as The Unforgiven or The Good, The Bad and the Ugly.

I'd say my top 10 is..

10. American Psycho
9. Lincoln Lawyer
8. End of Watch
7. Gladiator
6. Predator
5. Collateral
4. Boyz N the Hood
3. Black Hawk Down
2. Casino Royale
1. Empire Strikes Back

5. The Pianist

Can't believe I forgot to put The Pianist AT THE TOP of my original list... wow.

...
Mulholland Drive
Being John Malkovich

08. Amelie by Jean-Pierre Jeunet (2001)
06. The Princess Bride by Rob Reiner (1987)

Yeah, gotta add those to my list.

Looked up the great dictator since I'd never heard of it (along with kingpin, dog day afternoon, shallow grave and apollo 13) and realized the famous Charlie Chaplin speech is from that, will definitely have to give that movie a watch

It's my favorite of his, but I consider Modern Times to be a better movie, probably his best, and pretty much at the top of my list too  It's Chaplin, after all. Gold Rush would be my number 3.

Some good lists here. Enjoyed reading them.

Some were asking for suggestions. Last year I enjoyed the little known Argentinian flick Wild Tales by Damian Szifron. A bunch of short stories, really good. Good laugh, especially the Wedding sequence. I highly recommend it. Another good Argentinian movie with Ricardo Darin is Nine Queens.

If you want to see some old classics like Casablanca mentioned here, I would also suggest The Third Man with Orson Wells. African Queen and The Maltese Falcon are all Bogart 'must see' films. I am surprised nobody mentioned Lawrence of Arabia with Peter O'Toole. If you like O'Toole as much as I do you can also catch The Lion in Winter, The Stunt Man. The Thin Man series with William Powell is also surprisingly good for 1934. I also didn't see The Red Violin mentioned here, that's circa 1998 and pretty good. And Coppola's Apocalypse Now is good. I also agree with a lot of the foreign films and old classics mentioned above. I'm just itemizing a few that I did not see there (sorry if they are there and missed them by perusing quickly). I'd suggest a lot more but there are too many to mention lol.

I suppose your age will determine whether you like some or not. I saw 12 Angry Men when I was a teen and did not like it. Even then they told me it was a classic and it still did not register. Saw it again a few years ago and liked it. Right now I'd like to see A Man called Ove but it is in Swedish only. Of course the book is often better than the movie, so I might be disappointed. My guilty pleasure two years ago was Edge of Tomorrow with Tom Cruise. Not a Cruise fan, so I was surprised. Maybe it was Emily Blunt that subconsciously got to me. ;)

With movies it is very subjective, you never know what you might enjoy.

Man this is tough. I'm such a movie buff. I guess these movies I can watch over and over and not ever get tired of them.

Crazy, Stupid love. (With Steve Carell. This movie surprised me. From beginning to end, honestly, not a bad scene in it. Perfect movie)
Heat (Deniro and Pacino face to face. Shootout scene. C'mon.)
Terminator 2 (definition of a blockbuster)
The Prestige (This one really caught me off guard. Wayyyy better then I thought it was going to be. If you haven't seen this, please do. Credit to having a different plot to typical Hollywood films)
Braveheart
Office Space
A Nightmare on Elm Street (Classic. Freddy Krueger is iconic to the horror genre)
Rudy (Notre Dame diehard so this touches home. The soundtrack is amazing too)
Lord of the Rings (The battle scenes alone, wowwww)
